Here's my shopping list for one of these weeks. Could you please tell me whether I'm planning to buy total crap or focal lengths that don't make any sense for me, or suggest alternatives? Thanks a lot!

0034,95 Canon 77mm Haze UV-1 Filter
1139.95 Canon EF 70-200 2.8L
1149.95 Canon EF 24-70 2.8L**
0284.95 Canon EF 1.4x II Extender
0379.95 Canon Speedlite 580 EX
0014.95 Flash Diffuser for 580 EX
0014.95 Sunpak Contoured Hand Strap
0189.95 Lowepro Nature Trekker AW II
0131.50 Shipping
3341.10 Total (Dollar)

Here's what I've got at the moment:
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Canon
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM
The 70-200 would replace the 55-200, and the 17-55 or -85 replaces the 18-55.

**I think the 24-70 will be too heavy for an all-round lens, and too large. I'm having a hard time deciding between the
1039.95 EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM and the
514.95 EF-S 17-85mm F/4.5-5.6 IS USM Lens.
This is going to be my walkaround lens, I'd also use it for photojournalism (not sports) where the 10-20 isn't necessary. F/2.8 would come in quite handy, but the 17-85 has those extra millimetres that can make the difference and it's only half the price...

The prices are in USD, from B&H. Has anybody in Europe had something shipped from the US? Any bad surprises with taxes? Thank you for any kind of advice, this is a big purchase for me so I'd like to hear what other people think.

Wow, I wish I had that kind of budget for new stuff... Anyway, if you're looking for a good lens to get instead of the 24-70 2.8L, take a look at the Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8, it's an excellent lens and pretty lightweight too. Other than that, it all looks good to me!

Edit to add: The Tamron goes for $350ish and I'm sure everyone else that posts on here will throw that into the mix as well. Good luck!

Good walkaround lense is the 24-105 F4L but you lose the F2.8. Your list seems like a good one though. Only thing on it I own that I semi-regret buying is the 580EX. I haven't used it since the day I bought it 6 months ago, but that's just me. Someday I'll probably be glad it's in the bag.

FWIW, if you don't really need the weather cover of the AW and comfort is more important to you, check out the Tamrac Expedition 7 which is about the same size for about $10 cheaper. I tried both the AW Nature Trekker II and the Tamrac on in a store and bought the Tamrac for being much more comfortable, plus all the little gadget pockets which come in very handy. I also got the large side pockets for it and those hold a lot of stuff too.

If you can afford it, instead of the canon diffuser go with the Gary Fong lightsphere. You won't regret it. I also agree that the Tamron SP 28-75mm is a great lens and not as heavy as the Canon. I'm not sure if what the difference in quality is but I know tons of people on this site have it and have had amazing results with it.

Telehubbie, I think you got me tempted there... Unfortunately the Tamrac has only got a 5 year warranty, you can't put the tripod on either side and it hasn't got the Trekker's daypack. On the other hand, it does look more comfortable, and you confirm this, plus the small pockets would be very very useful for me. Hm...
