My FIL keeps a CPL on his 80-400 all the time. Went to Yellowstone on a rainy day and I had the chance to grab it and go shoot a young elk playing near a stream. Before I even left the car the CPL was unscrewed and gone and tossed into the seat.

He leaves it on for protection, I had to take precious seconds to get 2 stops of light back.

Just a thought. But using an $80 piece of equipment that cuts your light to protect your lens is maybe not the best idea. CPL's are, IMO, not for every situation.

No, not at all... while I do use them coupled with fill-flash for dramatic skies sometimes (in portraits), other times it's not such a good idea.
