I was told that as a rule of thumb basic editing means that it's OK providfed it's done to the whole image
Can I sepia tone a picture ?
Can i do this by applying a solid colour adjustment layer and selecting merge normal and changing thopacity ?
Can i do it by suspecting merge color ? (I suspect not ?)
I have read the rules but I'm still not sure, help appreciated. |

Yes.

I don't see a way to add a solid color adjustment layer. The Adjustment Layers are the ones under the "Layer -> New Adjustment Layer" menu. If you're referring to "Layer -> New Fill Layer -> Solid Color", then no, you can't do that. If you're referring to something else, can you clarify what you mean, preferably by walking me through the menu steps??

Again, not sure what you're referring to here. Can you clarify the steps you're talking about?
Thanks,
Terry

Thanks for that -
Thr problem was that i was using the little icon at the bottom of the layers palette. It says @new fill or adjustment layer' but i'd just been thinking of it as the adjustment layer icon - so i guess what i have been adding is a fill layer - which i assume is prohinbited in basic editing. |

You can do duotone (load a quadrotone that looks like sepia) |

In PS Elements, you make a Hue/Saturation layer and tick the "colorize" box then make adjustments to the sliders. |
