A little rant, it seems to be that anyone who votes the way the want will be pulled out and stoned for it. (Take this you troll) Ok, so is it better for one to tell you the truth, (your pick does nothing for me and I don̢۪t think you even tried 3.) you can not please everyone. OR, Should the Voters Lie to you like your Mommy does and tell you how pretty you are. (It̢۪s ok Darling, there just mad because they could not take a picture as good as yours) BS.
Wait, before you go looking at my scores let me help you out, my photography sucks,
It needs help, Lots of help. I have been stuck in the low 5s for what seems like for ever. But that score keeps me trying for something better each week. Ok I don̢۪t want to get off subject.
I admit my voting may have been a little harsh, something to do with the way I was raised maybe. And my bad I have been using a scale of 1 to 10, (oh Rinac your last score from me was a FRESH 7). But for now on, to help prevent frustration among the many talented photographers here, I will only be voting on a 6 to 10 scale. So you fell over drunk and your camera phone snapped a picture of the inside of your pocket, ok you get a 6, nice job, well done. I know this sucks for the ones that go out and try using only Manuel features and really want to learn something. And your 7 shot well deserved is only one notch above that fussy black box that got a 6. But hey at least there will be one less TROLL! And you can go on thinking that at least one person thought your photo was good. I always try to vote on 100%, I don̢۪t vote on the challenge I entered, and please don̢۪t stone me anymore as my average vote cast will continue to rise. (6 to 10 scale). And I just know that all my 8s 9s and 10s will make your photography that much better. Now go out and call yourself a pro. And yes I am poor; I have not got a member ship because I can not afford it. I am using a camera that has no focal points, one of my lenses
Bobbles when you try to focus, the other has dust on the inside that I can not get out.
And if I try night shots I get hot pics allover. I did not get it new, It was used and I was very lucky to get it, But until I can get something better or at least get this one fixed the membership will have to wait.

There's nothing wrong with being a tough voter with honest opinions, and an average of 3.8 on a scale of 1-10 is VERY tough. It shows that the average DPC photo in your opinion is not halfway between good and bad, but halfway between average and bad. That's certainly your right, but consider that the vast majority of people judging the entries obviously have a very different opinion. If you don't agree with others on what makes a good photo, then you're not likely to have much success when they judge your entries. That's FAR more important than your camera, and people have been successful with much less equipment than a crippled Rebel (jjbeguin STILL doesn't have a DSLR). Maybe you just have different tastes from the rest of DPC?

I'm all for being truthful, honest and welcome it when someone evaluates my photos. In fact I wish I got hard hitting critiques as I don't mind them but I understand why people don't leave them. So I understand what you're saying elwoodsplace, however to be equally honest with you I don't see how you can say you are being a "little harsh" when your average vote cast is 3.8 out of a possible 10. That's being very harsh, stone throwing harsh to use your words. And that's fine but if you are going to be a harsh critique best you develop a thick skin.

ETA: I'm always late. :P

I feel poorly right now and haven't read the whole thread, so I apologize if I'm off.. but:

It seems to me that saying something like "this picture does nothing for me" is a good comment. I just a couple minutes ago got a new comment that said that it wasn't that person's style. That was all they said, and it was valuable to me as a comment because I got to see that not everybody liked the style I used.

However. Comments like "I don't think you even tried" are, in my opinion, insulting. That says nothing, really, about the picture - it says more about your opinion of the photographer, which to me seems like a personal attack. How in the world can you justify saying you don't think they tried? Could it be possible that it is someone very new to photography who is submitting what they truly worked hard on?

Rina, Rina, Rina... what have you started? Honestly, I can't take you anywhere. Over my knee now, you know the drill.
