Does the challenge end on 28th at 0000 hours or at 2359 hours?
I mean, tonight or tomorrow night?
Thanks. |

ok. so I wasn't smart enough to read this thread before I submitted and I took a shot that related to someone's actual famous last words in a sad way. not a sarcastic or funny thing at all. will that make it a DNMC image? It may work for diagonal too if it has to but for obvious reasons I'd want it in the challenge I shot it for if it fits. what's the verdict? |

I don't see why it doesn't meet challenge. The description makes no mention of sarcastic or funny.

The description as it seems to have been interpreted in this thread seems to be words said right before someone does something stupid or dangerous,..oh well. I guess i'll leave it and we'll see. I wouldn't care so much if it werent for the WPL. |

Probably too late for inspiration, but this just came my way. My favorite is the Ethan Allen quote.
Famous Last Words
"It has all been very interesting!"
declared Lady Mary Wortley Montague.
Examining his sickroom, Oscar Wilde railed,
"Either that wallpaper goes, or I do."
Told the angels were waiting for him,
Ethan Allen quipped, "Let 'em wait."
"I am so very happy," Gerard Manley Hopkins cooed.
Goethe pleaded for "More light, more light."
Madame de Pompadour cried out to God,
"Wait a minute!" rouged her cheeks red.
"I suppose I am turning into a god?"
The dying Emperor Vespasian said.
Henry James, succumbing to a massive stroke,
"So it has come ... The Distinguished Thing."
Pancho Villa pleaded, "Don't let it end
like this. Tell 'em I said something."
Gertrude to Alice B.: "What is the answer?"
[Silence] "In that case, what is the question?"
"If this is dying, I don't think much of it,"
Muttered Lytton Strachey. When undone,
Julius Caesar managed, "Et tu, Brute?"
Edmund Kean: "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard."
Chekhov: "It's been so long since I've had champagne."
Goethe: "More light, more light," then departed.

"Go on, get out. Last words are for fools who haven't said enough."
Hahaha, sweet, thanks for this bit, just gave me the funniest idea ever.Originally posted by fotomann_forever: Originally posted by scalvert:
Might have a hard time passing it off as Famous... |
"Famous Last Words" is just an expression. While it also refers to the final words of celebrities, it is more often used as a form of sarcasm for a claim that turns out to be completely wrong or ill-advised. Famous last words generally come right before the speaker's death or failure due to stupidity, ignorance or unfounded optimism. |

Entered diagonal with 10 minutes to spare, looked at the number of entries in each, pulled and submitted to last words with 5 minutes to spare.
I know, I'll be sorry!! |

I posted a question in another Famous Last Words thread yesterday and it was locked 10 seconds later...I was referred to this one but it didn´t seem at the time it was discussing much related to the challenge.
Anyway, I had doubts about the wording of the challenge
"Title your image with your idea of "famous last words" and show us your interpretation of same. Examples: "I saw this on TV once..."; "Trust me, I'm a pro!"; and "He won't bite!";
I completely understood that this would be last words uttered by someone FAMOUS and did just that. Now I´m getting comments that this is not so, I have it all wrong, I should have made a photo of someone uttering SOME famous words, if it wasn´t known by anyone else, didn´t matter.
Help me to understand here please!

"Famous Last Words" is very english-centric, because in this context the words don't have to be famous, nor does the person. It's typically an ironic statement, such as someone saying "I know what I am doing" just before they really screw up, or "Trust Me" right before somebody does something that they should not have been trusted to do.
