Gal I know sent these to me because she wanted a photographer's opinion. She and some friends went "ghost hunting" on their campus and I guess these two shots were the only ones that were "strange."
I'm into ghosts and all that stuff, I think it's cool. But I also think that 99% of all "weird" pictures are really wonderful captures of rain, dust, bad flash technique, etc. Still, I'd love any other opinions on these. I know there's folks from both sides of this debate, so feel free to jump in, please!
This one looks like the normal flare and smudge stuff to me. I don't find it to be anything but a overly noisy night shot.
This one I can't explain so easily. That looks like a lot of fog, and I was told there wasn't any in any other shots. I'm still waiting to hear on extra details, like weather and temp. Who's got an explanation?

Foolish to mock the spirits. THE DARK LORD WILL SOON RETURN. You, my friend, will be the first again the wall...

Looks like she is wearing a pretty heavy coat in the first pic. Could be the photographers breath condensing in the cool air. The second one looks like second hand smoke. :-) |

Second shot is easy to explain too. The girl in the first shot is wearing a jacket, meanin it was cold outside.
Explanation: The photographer or someone nearby exhaled during the shot. Flash lit up the exhaled steam.
Edit: Ken beat me to it.
Oh, BTW, that's not really a lens flare in the first shot. It's more likely dust or moisture droplet in the air illuminated by the flash.

I think it's likely steam from the photogs breath. Doesn't appear to be cigarette smoke (I'm a smoker). This is a bit denser than cig smoke.

Listen to routerguy, you non-believers! Those spirits may well come after YOU!
If only Rose was still a member - she'd get out her ouija board and enlighten us all.
(just kidding, except for the Rose part - I really do miss the entertaining threads we used to have) |

Except if this was upstate NY it hasn't been very cold. But could be either I guess. |

You know, I feel pretty silly right now for not picking up on the jacket = cold = fog part.
Thank you all for the input! I guess I'll have to go crush her hopes now.
And routerguy666, when the Dark Forces do come calling, I'm givin' 'em your name. ;-)
