I use GIMP on my commputer and want to begin experimenting with RAW images... What is the best way to get started? I believe there is a plug in--do I just download it and it does the job? Do you just open the RAW file in GIMP and then save as a TIFF, XCF, or JPEG after processing?

Any tips or tricks for successful RAW work?

I don't have a DSLR, but I have a canon powershot G6, so I get pretty good images and it has a RAW setting. I'd really like to try working with RAW to do portraits of my family.

thanks!

If you are using a Windows machine, you may find using Raw Shooter Essentials a bit more intuitive than the GIMP plugin.
