My Canon 10D automatic setting is stuck at 1/60 sec and f5.8. Now.. it's entirely possible that I have managed to do this myself:
a. intentionally and forgot how
b. unintentionally and also forgetting how
c. forces outside of my control and conciousness are to blame.
In any event, help. I need to get my automatic settings back to using various other shutterspeeds and f stops.
Thanks in advance. |

| Yes to both. Even reset settings and still when I shoot in auto mode, it is always 1/60 second. |

Make sure you are in P mode. If all else fails, remove your main battery and the little battery on the base plate and let the camera sit for about 15 minutes. That will put it back to factory defaults. Make sure you re-set your date and time after you put the batteries back in.

also just out of curiousity... if your interested in using different shutterspeeds and f/ stops why not use shutter priority or aperture priority mode (or even manual for that matter). Also there are different auto setting on the camera, you could put it in sport mode or portriat mode. The auto setting meters for you and choses the setting it deems correctly meter the subject.
looking back through my old 10d manual (traded it in a little bit ago for the 30d) seems like if you want to get different shutter speeds/ f/stops and still be in auto mode you can just switch between auto setting. Sport mode for shotter shutter speeds, portrait mode for small f/stops, landscape mode for large f/ stops, macro for medium f/stop and night setting for longer shutterspeeds.

| Thanks for the replys, I may have to pull the batteries as suggested. I rarely use automatic. I switched to it for a few shots, and was not happy, that was when I noticed the shutter speed. Since then, nothing I have done has changed it. I'll give the battery pull a try, but I have this sneaking suspicion I set it that way during an exercise for a seminar I took a few months back. Thanks again. I'll update with the results. |
