Looks like the organization is a charity. Make your photo a donation if you like what they do. I would say negotiate a contract for usage and value and write it off your taxes. Find out how much the IRS will allow. Fill out proper tax forms and get your receipt.

To give you an idea. Clear Channel which owns 99% of the billboards in the San Antonio Texas area and probable a majority in the United states sells billboard space here in San Antonio for $300 for the very small neigbourhood corner size, $1300 for the medium size highway size and the huge 30 panel freeway size is from about $1800-2500 per month plus art setup and installation.

So if it goes on a medium size highway the advertiser may pay about $1300 per month rent, if you charge $1100 for one months use on one sign and the rental you may have busted their budget. Hope not!

One photo, onetime use, one month showing, one sign if you can get $1100 I think you did real good.

Best of luck!

Ya but also remember that "most" charities make an enormous amount of money and pay very little to where the charity is meant to suppost. The leaders and key people could very easily be paid millions of dollars a year. If it was going to a charity that can certify that 95-100% actually goes to where they support then you could donate it. A majority of charities are good if 50% of their donation ever do any good. I do know of a couple that is at 100% but they are far between and hard to find.

Best of luck!

while this is true for alot i don't know i would say most or at least not most major ones. i am sure that there are some smaller shady ones. personally i like the ones i contribute to to be closer to 75% but can handle 50% if they are spending the money ina good way. for instance if they spend the money on things that will contribute to more money next year then i am ok with it. Also while some charitys do pay a lot of money to those at the top you have to think "where would that charity be without them?" if they are doing a good enough job to bring in more money bottom line to the chairity than if some shlub that didn't know what they were doing was running it then i am ok with it.

In the end you always want to research your chairtys before you give them your money.

Quoted them $1100. Holding my breath now. The 20% commission would suck, though...LOL [/quote]

$1100 sounds like a fair price, if you sell micro stock for a $1 then it makes it really hard to justify 1100 for an image, if you need a reality check, stop and check out what comparable immages are selling for equivilent usage. I'm sure they are paying top dollar.
