....I always look to see if there is a little lock on the bottom of the page to ensure that the info I give will not be stolen.

I am interested in a product, but I don't see the little lock.

Is there another way to see if the site is safe? Legit?

Not really.

However, the little lock is no guarantee of legitimacy. It only means that your data is encrpyted across the web link.

Only shop online with places that you trust. Personal recommendation is a nice idea.

Depending on the site, you may not see the 'little lock' until you go into the 'check-out' screen.

This is not site specific - I have a credit card that lets you login and create a false (they would say one-time use) card#, exp date, credit limit and 3 digit magic# (the one on the back of the card). It will not help on the purchase but at least they never have a number they can reuse or charge more then you allow.
