Fire...Fire...Fire.....Out of the fire, and one busted/broken zoom lens.....
Here are some photos taken from my back verandah of our home, here at Little Mountain, a suberb of Caloundra, on the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland, Australia.
Yesterday, a huge fire broke out just over the ridge from our home, and quickly spread through a pine plantation, causing major problems in our area.
It was declared a "State of Emergency" for a time, until the fire was eventually brought under control. A school and many houses in its path were evacuated. The winds were just so strong, and made the situation more difficult.
We watch the fire for many hours from our verandah, as it was not that far from us, moving in the opposite direction thank goodness.
I my haste for some good photos, I somehow let my zoom lens accidently fall off my camera, and I don't know how, as I was adjusting the lens and it fell to the ground. I was devistated, as it is now broken.....
I only hope it is covered by insurance. Bummer....bummer.....bummer.....
Here are the photos I managed to get.....

These images were taken between 3pm & 4pm in the afternoon, and it was quite eerie, with all the haze and smoke about.
This was a serious situation, and yes, it was weird, and I have never seen anything like it before.
The wind was very, very strong, and there was a purple to red haze all around us, with clouds and clouds of smoke everywhere.
Only the first image was processed with a little dodgeing and burning, but the other two are what one actually saw.....The wind was so so strong I had trouble focusing.
It caused some difficulties with my breathing as well.
I don't ever want to go through this again, as it was just so close to us.

Max'd out in camera saturation and sharpening? Or big radius usm in pp? Sherpet you defintely have a unique workflow as all your photos have this same appearance. What's your method? |

Wow, the expression, "too close for comfort" fits well here.
Glad that your family and home is okay. Too bad about your lens. |

I was watching this on the news last night. Glad to here you are ok. Snow and fire in the same day, weird hey?! We had a large fire near our home a few years ago, it didn't quite get to the evacuation stage but I was going out and didn't want to find out the situation had changed when I got back so I took my dogs and my family albums to my parents house first. When it comes down to it they would be the things I would hate to lose the most (apart from the kids of course!).
Were you ready to evacuate? |
