I second this. In fact, I'd love to see this happen once a month so that it keeps people commenting all the time. Perhaps make the monthly free studies this way. |

There are also other ways to be recognized on DPC. OOBIEs and YAPPIEs. |

How about one week having the open challenges split into a "Master" challenge (hate that wording though, don´t think ribbon winners are better photographers cause they have ribbons...) and one for those who haven´t gotten ribbons yet?
I for one did stay away from the low tech challenge at that time though but that´s just me, I am way too competetive for my own good and know I would have felt kindof half good about winning a ribbon in that challenge, just like I would never feel comfortable winning a ribbon by cheating with multiple ghost accounts or voting down "competitors" (a reason why I stopped voting in challenges I enter cause I always felt a little bit biased when I did that, like I was judging every photo against my own...)

I don't know if I'd enter such a challenge. I've gotten within striking distance of a ribbon a few times, so I don't know if I would want a * next to a ribbon if I messed around and won one in such a challenge. I want the honor of saying I beat scalvert, DrAchoo and company :-)
I'll take my ribbon in the next SP challenge , thank you.

Yeah, probably a bad idea, I just am one for trying out new things and if they don´t work, don´t do them again but I agree fotomann, I would probably sit it out too for the same reasons, beating Shannon and Jason is just too fun :P |

I've been letting you beat me because I know you are down about me having more ribbons this year than you.

ribbons, spibbons - I don't need no stinkin' ribbons!
I like being the one that makes people think, "How can he not have a ribbon?"

Dude, you don't have a ribbon yet? How many 7+ scores do you have?

Just for the sake of argument: for paid members, split the weekly challenge into two challenges: those who have a ribbon, and those who do not. If you want to compete against the best (as measured by ribbons won), you have to win a ribbon in the other category first.
I'm not advocating this, mind you, but it WOULD be very interesting; imagine the forum discussions on whether the JV winner would have beaten the varsity winner :-)

As an alternative what-if, what about seperating a challenge or two by the sites statistical average (5.5)? Anyone who has never scored over 5.5 in one challenge and those who have scored over 5.5 in the other.
The results would be interesting, I think. I really think we'd see how voters vote. Would be see 6+ scores in the JV challenge, becauase voters were comparing entries against thier competition?
Just some food for thought.

then we would have a week where many of us couldn't enter one challenge and wouldn't enter the other.
it's happened once, it was a bad idea that didn't really "work"...
the whole JV league idea just kills me... i was a 1st striker/forward on the jv soccer team and 2nd string midfielder on the varsity team... i always prefered sitting the bench for varsity...
no thanks.

As long as now we're not saying, "why does he have to keep hogging all the ribbons??" ;) |

I knew this thread would jinx my spotless record!
Now I'm just a flash in the pan, one hit wonder single ribbon winner. ;-)
Thanks everyone. I love my little red ribbon!
