Check out this video. Looks like a cop got a little nervous with the trigger. I don't really know anything about guns myself, but I'd imagine that there is a proper way to hold a gun... like not wrapped on the trigger or something. Just glad her fellow officer didn't get shot or even the subdued character.

There is a proper way to hold a gun in those circumstances, and that's not it.
We were nervous at our clinic when the State cops came rampaging through with their fingers on the triggers and waving and pointing their guns at staff members...most of them looked and acted like it was a their first "training mission" in the field.

that doesnt suprise me... the civilian training programs here (as an example: Defensive Pistol Association ) are better than most police programs... one thing we are taught is to never put your finger on the trigger unless your going to fire the weapon... there was no reason for her to have her finger on the trigger, especially with another officer subduing the perpetrator |

I'm so glad we can agree that people with guns should be trained to use them properly and safely...:) |

Absolutely General, I believe in training courses for all gun owners... Not mandatory training, but you're and idiot if you buy a gun without learning how to use it first.
As for the cop, you can see has her finger on the trigger and discharges the gun at an angle about a foot in front of the suspect's head, probably just barely missing him and scaring the crap out of the cop who was handcuffing the guy!
In this situation it's reasonable to keep the gun pointed at the suspect, but as the threat diminishes (ie. cop putting the handcuffs on), she should have removed her finger from the trigger and kept it outside the trigger guard. Unless there was something wrong with the gun, it's pretty lame to discharge it like that (very lame). |
