Planning on going to Disney's Animal Kingdom as part of your Disney World trip? Seems like it would be good to add an extra day if you have it.

I went in mid september. Here is my advice, and what I actually did. Leave the SLR behind. Disney world is a very active vacation and it is a quite magical place to be with your family. I tend to get tunnel vision when I am out with my camera and keep my eye in the viewfinder. I really wanted to enjoy the time with my son and my wife so I left the big gear at home. I didn't even try to take a lot of "beauty shots" to be honest. I did take a P&S for those great family snaps but most of the rest you can find in a brocure or on the web. Just have fun. I know this is blasphemy on this site, but make sure you enjoy the trip. Oh, if you go to MGM be sure to go to the drawing studio and have your kids learn to draw from a disney illustrator. One of those things that most people overlook but my son and I enjoyed thouroughly. You get to take home your drawings that will really look like goofy or micky (and I can not draw at all) If you don't already have a book I HIGHLY recommend "the unnoficial guide to disney world 2006" great system although you wont need to follow the rigerous schedules because you are going on the off season.
have fun.

I wasn't a photographer at the time, but I worked there for about a year just after college. When some of my family was visiting, I took them into one of the shops at Downtown Disney, had them all put on different cartoony hats, and took a snapshot of the family, and that was their favorite photo of the entire vacation. However, Disney purposely designs everything to be picturesque, so my advice is to take lots of batteries, get a honkin' huge memory card, and shoot absolutely everything, because everyt ime you turn around, there's another shot you'll just have to take.
And then go spend an afternoon at Canaveral National Seashore, where there are no crowds, the beaches are pristine, and the shuttle launch pad is a stone's throw away.

I am a bit apprehensive about taking the gear... water rides, chaos, etc..Beaches do sound pretty good. The P&S might be the ticket - Though it's hard to shake the thrill of the (photo) hunt... Thanks all
What temps can we expect down there end of Nov, beginning of Dec?

What ever you do...don't look at Minnie Mouse. Rumor has it around set...Mickey is dangerously jealous and WILL go goofy on your ass.
It's just a rumor, but Eisener has paid alot of hush hush money to alot of tourist recently.
Mickey hasn't been seen in 6 months, but, that doesn't mean he won't be at Disney Land. I think Eisener has him locked up somewhere so not to cause any more harm to tourists. Wouldn't put it past Eisener.
Personally, I think Mickey tips the bottle back too much, and smokes too many cigarettes. I've been told by a confidential source that people have smelled marijuana on his cloths, but that too is just a rumor.
Good luck.

Eisner isn't in charge anymore... I think Roy bumped him off. I don't remember who the new Head Mousketeer is. Anyway, have fun at Mousewicz!

Yeah, that's what he wants you to think.
Poor Roy Disney, in his office, a mantle piece of sorts, but nothing more. The "security" that watches him, it has to be Eisener.
Naaaa, there is alot of evil at Disney still, and no one is talking. Eisener, supposedly gone, is in fact the shadow of Roy.
Mickey's drinking is because of all the behind the scenes goings on that the average citizen is not aware of.
Poor Mickey. Poor Roy.

Funny story: when I was working at Disney, I met Eisner several times. I'm pretty sure he ran absolutely nothing at all, but he made a great public figure since he was very outgoing and remembered the name of everyone whose hand he shook, and he insisted on shaking hands with every cast member he ran across. However, it was obvious that his wife was the one who ran everything in their marriage. She was the one in the kitchen with the chef directing what he would have for dinner (he was on a restricted diet for his heart), and if he looked longingly at something on the menu, his wife would snap, "You know you can't have that!" Several times, he had dinner with the Board of Directors, which included Roy Disney and Sidney Poitier. Where Eisner was all about energy and charisma, Roy came off as a deliberate wallflower and almost seemed annoyed to be addressed, much more of a servant/master role expected between us and him. The marionette strings were practically visible.
Sidney Poitier, by the way, was breathtaking. Friendly, but quiet and dignified. Such a beautiful, lovely man. Nothing but wonderful things to say about him. Just beautiful.

Weather in Orlando at that time is perfect. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s. Photo opps are plenty. I like to go to Epcot to the countries. Animal Kingdom is my favorite. The animals are great and they have made the buildings look fairly authentic.
I noticed in your profile that you like shots of fireworks. There is a deck on the third floor of the Contemporary Resort near the Magic Kingdom. Some of the best views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks are out there. The Wilderness Lodge will give you a National Park feel complete with a guyser. All of the resorts offer photos opps of there own with the different themes. Look at the Disney Website to see the themes.
Have a great time.
