We're going to DC tomorrow and Im looking to wrap up the intinerary. So, any websites that help a stranger to the city guide them through what to see and what not?
We're doing the night tour that we did last year at Notacon, but other than that and the zoo, I dont know what to go do!!!

The last time I was there, the new Smithsonian Air & Space Museum had just opened.
What the difference between this one and the original one on the National Mall? According to the site, "[this new one] provides enough space for the Smithsonian to display the thousands of aviation and space artifacts that cannot be exhibited on the National Mall."
It quite a large museum. A space shuttle is there (the Enterprise), the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped "the bomb" on Japan), the SR71 Blackbird is there, the Concorde, as well has many historic commercial aircraft...a great photo opportunity.

It all depends on what you want to see...the monuments are great, any of the Smithsonian buildings, the Library of Congress, Union Station, the National Museum of Art.... |

Not sure what you enjoy or what your mode of transportation is, but I'd personally rather go up to Harpers Ferry area (about 1 hour NW of DC).
In DC the usual Georgetown area is fun, but don't forget Adams Morgan neighborhood for some fun places to eat and/or drink. |

FYI, the new Air and Space Musuem is pretty far outside the city. Not a problem if you have a car but not anywhere near Metro.
Arlington Cemetery and the Lee Mansion are right across the river (and on Metro) and there are probably various Veteran's Day activities going on there; Mt. Vernon is close; the monuments and museums on the Mall could keep you busy for weeks; the zoo just opened up a whole new section and is close to Adams Morgan for post-Zoo dining; Embassy Row on Massachusetts Avenue has some fun architecture, as does the National Cathedral (great gargoyles!), the National Arboreteum always has something to see; the Spy Museum is reputed to be a lot of fun ... and then there are a ton of places within an hour or so of DC like Civil War forts and battlefields and other historic houses (Harper's Ferry has all of those and has some breathtaking views if you hike a bit); and, and, and ... ;-)
For websites I'd check the DC newspapers and TV/newsradio stations for visitor's guides. Chamber of Commerce probably has one, too. |

I lived in D.C. last year, so I thought maybe I could help. Adams Morgan is pretty fratty on the weekend, but there's a restaurant there called The New Orleans Cafe with beignets that are the best I've had, even better than those in New Orleans. Coppi's Pizza on U Street is really good; the seating is tight, but it's not a problem if you go early. Dupont Circle is nice. It's well lit and Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe is a fun place to eat and people watch. Georgetown...well...I hate it, but don't let that dissuade you. There's no Metro stop there -- the residents thought it would bring an influx of the wrong kind of people (ugh!) -- so you'll have to bus it. But it's lively and trendy, if that's your thing. Hope you have fun. |
