The white scratch (or smudge) on the top edge of the barrel (the left side as you face it) is a bit distracting. Otherwise, I like the bokeh and the lighting.

		| What's the purpose or intended use of the photo? It could be wonderfully fit for a specific intended purpose ... but without knowing it, it's hard to like it on its own and with out context. |

So the technical aspects of the photo have no merit without an intended use?
How about FOR gun control...For the NRA. Would make a good stock shot for either and many other things.
As said before...good bokeh, focus, and lighting. A few minor little blemishes to clean up, but good.

You could name it HARMLESS, paperweight, or doorstop. that could get ya a bunch of nice reactions. :)

It's actually only 17,999 students. That last one dropped out of school earlier in the day. *grin* |

some things that come to my mind:

 - use USM to get the sharpness more out of it
 - is this a real gun? looks plastic to me
 - bump up the contrast a bit
 - you should get rid of the signature. it distracts very, because it's the only color in the photo, and red. red is the color our eyes go to immediately
 - DoF looks nice
 - rest is said ;)

oh and about the title. you said:

 i don't think that's true :) |
