So I go out and purchase my nice new shiny 30D (which I LOVE btw). I usually take it with me when I go anywhere (even to work). Today, I left it at home because I didn't feel like lugging it around and I rarely get the opportunity to use it at work anyway.

Well, at 11:00 this morning, I was informed that a hawk was feeding on a pigeon he had caught right on the ledge of our building. I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAMERA!!!! I quickly grabbed our work camera... An olympus 2.1 MP POS and got what images I could. I shot through a window screen because I new I wasn't going to get a great shot anyway. If I had my nice new shiny 30D, I would've been more adventurous and found a better vantage point with no window or screen in the way. I actually could've walked right up to the hawk where he was, but wasn't going to risk my life with a crappy 2.1 MP camera. Well, anyway, long story short, I went home at lunch to get my camera... Hawk was gone... MISSED OPPORTUNITY! This is what I'm left with.... Ohhhh... the possibilities!!!

Lesson LEARNED!

Now you'll lug a heavy camera to work for years and never get an opportunity like this again. Ain't life grand? hahahaha

Wow! I left my camera home yesterday for the first time in a long time and I didn't miss anything! You make me wish I had now! Considering the camera you had to use it is a nice capture. Sometimes just being there, quietly watching nature in action is really nice too ;-)

Yeah... some consolation! ;-)

This was actually the second pigeon he caught... he was feeding from 8:00 AM until well after 12:00 PM... Plenty of opportunity to set up a killer shot (pun intended).

nice pic but that always happens... the one time you leave your camera behind, you see a great photo op.....

Look at it this way, the problem is not the camera but rather the lack of readily available pigeons. If you would carry some pigeons with you, the camera would be less important. Come to think of it, you could start a whole "pigeon feeding series" featuring hawks, eagles, beagles, fish, squirrels and raoches all feeding on pigeons. People with all different camera types would be able to join in on this pigeon feeding fest and cameras could be shared among participants and new pigeon feeding compositions can be discussed and experimented with. All this being said, it is clear the lacking camera is not the problem after all. ;-)
