My 4yr old's brakes are all messed up. The bike is old, but pretty darn new. We got it new from a friend who never used it and now my son is big enough to ride it. It has been in Florida and now Guam....lots of humidity.

Anyways, the bike has both a single handbrake and the brakes where you just peddle backwards a bit. The brake is clamped down on the tire and I cannot pry it loose. His back tire will not spin because of this.

Please tell me it can be fixed cheaply and that I can do it myself...LOL I know nothing about bicycle repair.

Thanks!

if the brake pads from the handbrake are whats clamped down it should be easy to fix, where the cable inserts into the caliper there should be a nut holding the cable in place, loosen the nut and release the tension on the cable, there should also be an adjustment on the handbrake lever as well. hope this helps.

if it is the hand brake that is clamped to tight you can follow the cable from the lever to the rear wheel, the part that the cable hooks into is the caliper,it will actuall only connect to one side of the caliper, there should be pads on both sides however. The cable should run through a small bolt and is tightened down with a nut, if you loosen the nut it will allow the brake pads to spread apart, I'm sorry, I'm probabally not much help.

Do you mean it has a coaster brake in the hub? Peddle backwards to brake? If so, make sure the reaction arm is properly secured. Like they show here
