I turned 40 today...and I've never felt better.
A large part of that is my renewed love of photography and the part the talented and generous people here at DPC have played in it.
Thanks everyone. I look forward to many more years of comparing notes and learning from all of you how to take better pictures.

Hey there Happy Birthday.... feel any different? Hope not cause my 40th is very very soon...... I still feel like a teena... uh uh not that young well lets just say I don't fell like I'm about to be 40. I remember when I thought that was old but, now that I'm almost there Its well its sure as heck not old.

Had no answer until this week.
Given my budget, photo experience, level of expertise, etc, I looked around for a decent, entry-level dSLR.
I think the best value for the money has got to be the Olympus E-500. Where I live, you can buy the camera and two lenses for under $1000 (Canadian).
And looking at some of the shots posted here that were taken using the camera, I'd say it produces pretty impressive images (with a nod to the talent of the photographers, of course).
In a few years, and with some more experience (and more pennies saved!) I'll move up to a higher-end Canon or Nikon, or even Pentax (they seem to be getting their act together with the K10D) but for now the Olympus will suit me fine.
