I love my camera (Dimage 7), but it is a tremendous battery hog. I can't seem to find an external battery source that will work appropriately. I found one at a camera shop that was labeled for the Minolta product line, but there was a disclaimer that stated that it would work only for specific models. I can't even seem to be able to order anything direct from Minolta. Does any one have any other leads?

Jedi Knights come to my rescue.

I also have a DiMage 7 and had the same problem at first.

First, I will assume that you are using NiMH rechargeable batteries (at least 1600 mAH is strongly recommended). Alkalines will not work as they do not deliver adequate power. If you need rechargeables The Camera Shop/Ritz camera sells them for $10 for a set of 4 1800mAH batteries. You'll need a couple charge/discharge cycles till you get the full life of the battery.

Assuming you are using NiMH rechargeables the next thing you need is a good quality charger -- I've found this is the single best way to improve battery life. A rapid-charger, preferably a negative-pulse charger, is thebest way to charge a NiMH battery... trickle chargers can allow crystals to form and shorten battery life.

I bought a good negative-pulse charger at Radio Shack for (I think) about $30. In heavy shooting I can easily get 75-100 shots from a single charge.

Good luck and please feel free to ask if I can be of further help (especially since we have the same camera).
