Does anyone know if the order of challenge entries are according to the time it's entered. For example if I enter any shot the minute a challenge is announced, will my entry be #1 on the voting page?
I have seen this happen many times, are people reserving a space this way, then changing the photo when they do have the right one they want to enter?

Sorry if this has been brought up before, tried to do a search, didn't come up with anything..

My understanding is that they are arranged randomly. So, each user will see a different order for voting.

I've also wondering about the ordering of images for voting...but I don't believe it is a straight forward as that...they might jumble it all up when rollover happens...but then again I have no idea

Correct, the order is presented randomly as one way to prevent voting irregularites (cheating).

The order is randomized for each voter.

That's why we recommend just scrolling through the entries to vote, as this helps assure that each photo gets about the same number of votes (since not everyone votes on every image).

That's good to know, I've just been through voting for a 300+ entry challenge and this has taken me 3 days, some people may just be able to vote on the required 20% and move on...

.

But it is not randomized each time for a particular user, it seems. Because if I come back to a voting session a day or so later, the same order of photos is presented to me.

Oddly, the order of the photos is pretty important while I vote. If I hit a few shots in a row that I give low votes to, I'll usually give the following shots higher than usual votes out of temporary guilt. But if I hit a few really good shots in a row, beware any slackers that may follow.

There is an unlucky 20% of entries in the Free Study that my wife voted on using my account (she has no account at all). I watched her for a while and she's a pretty cruel voter, so I was chiming in fairly often lobbying for the shots I liked.

Please don't misunderstand - I'm not trying to assume bad faith - but is this "cool"? Is it okay for someone else to vote using my account? I'm not saying it is; I'm not saying it isn't. I'm just sorta confused by this idea.

Uh, no ... it violates the TOS.

I don't understand. She's my wife, she has never entered a contest, she has no account of her own... How can it in a sane way violate the TOS? Sometimes she watches me vote, or we vote together. How could the situation be any different if she were to become a registered user? Um, we also hang out together and even sleep together. We even made two babies together.

You've already suggested admitted her votes were different than yours would have been ... how can that not violate both the letter and spirit of the site's rules?

I don't think anyone is suggesting a suspension. We're just saying please don't do that again.

In the grand scheme of things, it's not that big a deal... we're just asking you to avoid it going forward.

Thanks,

let her register, then she can vote however she wants, without your coercion guidance. :D

then, she can start taking pictures. then, she becomes addicted. then, well, let's just say life gets interesting.

Can you forward me her TOS so I can make sure you didn't violate that as well? :P
