I was searching through my dad's old stuff and found some old cameras and accessories with the CHINON brand. You guys heard of this brand before?

It's no longer around, is it?
I'm thinking about scavenging some of the Chinon branded stuff, hehe...

Chinon first became known just after WWII (late 40's) as manufacturers of lens barrels and mounts. They were a pretty constant player in the 35mm and 8mm market for many years. I think most of their cameras were K-mounts (Pentax compatible). They did 8mm movie cameras too. They manufactured a number of Kodak cameras for rebranding, if I'm not mistaken. They may have been involved also in ALPA cameras if I recall correctly. Under their own name they were never a high-end manufacturer. Kodak bought 'em out, as BeeCee mentions, I think in the mid-70's. It's all a little fuzzy for me :-)

R.

ETA: That's way off: Kodak bought 'em in 2004... Chinon actually were the manufacturers of some of the Kodak branded digital cameras...
