Well, my old Samsung 17" CRT monitor from 2000 is showing signs of fatigue. Things are getting fuzzy and bland.

I'm in the market for a new 19" or 20" lcd monitor for photo editing, some gaming and general use.

I was looking at the NEC 90GX2, but none of the local vendors have it anymore. I understand that it's very good for photo editing.

I am also leaning towards the Samsung 931C. Excellent response time and vivid colours.

Just wondering if anyone out there can give me suggestions.

Thanks

Best monitor I've ever owned, Dell UltraSharp 24" flat panel LCD.

I just bought my husband a Samsung 19"...I think it was a 930b?? I'd have to go look at it again to make certain. I'm sure if money is no object that there are better monitors out there. But for the price, the Samsung had everything I wanted and plenty of speed for the gaming my hubby likes to do (look out WoW!)

Man, you crayzay!

A little too rich for my blood.

Looking for monitors in the $350 to $400 CAD range ($300 to $350 US).

I can't help you with anything in your range, b/c I can only give you an opinion on monitors I have used. I have the 20.1 Inch version of the monitor mentioned above. It's great. I use it for editing, games, and watching TV/Movies.

i have a Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP (same monitor as the 24" above, but smaller size)

i run 1280x1024 resolution and it's clear and bright, and is very adjustable (slides up and down for height, tips pretty far backward and forward, and even swivels sidways without moving the base) it's an awesome monitor!!

Probably. :) But it really is the best one I've ever used. I have one at work and one at home. It's the brightest monitor with the whitest whites and the richest contrast I've seen, and when hardware calibrated, it looks friggin awesome. I think it does my photography and Photoshopping a world of good.

Go for a wide!
Samsung and viewsonic have could colour reproduction and score highly consistently. I actually bought a brilliant (cheap build, very good colour considering) for its money 19inch Polyview v398 1400x900 as my primary screen nz $498 with 3 year warranty. I love it. Would really like that dell 24 inch though. Or any apple cinema display(same lcd as the dell usually).

WOOHOO! Found it.

Went out for supper last night and dropped by the local electronics store to pick up a new controller for the XBOX, when what do I see?

An NEC 19" 90GX2 monitor on display.

And guess what was right below it?

An NEC 19" 90GX2 monitor in a box! Sweeeeeeet.

So, I'm the owner of a brand new monitor. Gonna set 'er tonight after work.

I just bought a ProView 22" Widescreen for $AUD495.00. (CAN434, USD382)

1680x1050 resolution

Has VGA/DVI, built in speakers (crap ones).
Fairly small bezel as well. It looks good.

well.. 19" and 20" are never kick ass monitors....

but I think you cant do any better than the 20" Apple Cinema Display, unless you are willing to go bigger...

and the only real kick ass monitor is the 30" apple Cinema display :)

Kickass?
Apple 30" cinema display.

Best bargain? There is a 19" LG at bestbuy for $300 ish that has a contrast ratio of 1400:1 - go for it.

The best monitor ever is the Dell 3007WFP. Actually, it's probably the same LCD manufacturer as the Apple 30" monitor, but it's much cheaper :) Well, that is, until you take into account the cost of the PC you need to run it at native rez. It's still very nice, though

I got the LG Flatron a couple of weeks ago. 1400:1 contrast ratio and 4 ms response time. I like it a lot.

I am running two of these monitors at work with my Lenovo T60P. I love them and now I cant stand working on my CRT at home so i am going to purchase 2 of them for my personal setup. At $360.00 it is hard to beet.

hate to burst your bubble but it uses a 2ms TN panel = 18bit colour not 24bit..

you can't go around buying cheap TFT's guys they're only 18bit colour.. u really need to stretch that little extra and get a decent display - especially when working on Photographs..
