Wouldn't it be cool if the site had real time place tracking? Without identifying whose picture is what if our screen names were displayed in order of highest to lowest during the challenge. Not only could we see the score we have but also how we are ranked.....

good idea and it's programmable but the amount of load on the hosting server and on mysql database would be enormous so i think this not very possible to exists in the near future ... i'll go and eat something now :-)

Cool idea, but if it's too much for the database, maybe hourly updates?

Interesting idea but I don't think it would be a good idea to implement. Just think, right before turnover you see you are in 1st place and then when some votes get dropped you find out you finished 4th in a close race. That would probably be tough to stomach.

True, an hourly update would be just as good and probably more feasible.

And if you happen to drop from first to fourth you would know going in to it that scores change.

I just think it would be cool to have an idea of where you stand amongst the other entries during the competition.

It would also elimintate the post your score threads and that would ease up space on the server as well.....

Cool? Yes.
A good idea? I don't think so.

This ain't a horse race and if anything would encourage cheating it would be making it into one.

kinda agree. maybe it could just say where you were not where everyone else is.

That would be cool if we could just see our own ranking, but I don't see how any of it would encourage cheating. I just think it would be cool to know where you stand.

It would encourage cheating the same way other sites that show relative rankings (of images) do....how many threads posted here ask people to go vote them up? When a person knows their placement the incentive is all the greater.

Also, those "Score" threads....they wouldn't go away. They'd be there with people comparing how many hundredths of a point they were off, or still playing poker with the numbers, or lamenting that someone voted them down so they dropped below someone else.

Besides, after having had an update button for a few years (and successfully surviving withdrawl) I think there are much better things to gaze at and ponder during the course of a day than a Success-O-Meter on a current challenge. =}

I couldn't agree more. I'm not new to dpchallenge, but have just submitted my first entry into the challenges. It's my humble opinion that most here are just looking for a high score and could care less whether or not they have a good image. These "Show us your score" threads are comical. People get called trolls when someone sees their score drop by a couple decimal points, LOL!

I will admit, instant feedback is nice, but sitting here hitting your refresh button for a week is a bit overkill as it is and implementing the suggestion above would only feed the point chasers I'm afraid.

I have a look at my score and more importantly comments before heading to work, usually have a look at lunch time, then when I get home. The score is nice, but seeing that comment number increase is more valuable than having your image voted up or down.

So...short story long... bad idea!

A cool idea, but I should be the only one allowed to see it. ;-)

it would be nice to have real-time scoring, but only AFTER the challenge is over.
what i mean is, maybe a graph of your entry's performance over the entire week of voting, so you can see the voting trends.
any more information about entries DURING voting will mess up the secretive (hopefully) nature of it.
