Yeah I'm still new to the "advanced" editing senario and don't know how to do many things, but my biggest concern right now is noise reduction.
Would also like to do selective destat and neat image (or is that another program all together?)
edit: whoops didn't realize I was in this section of the forums...oh well.

Yes, Neat Image is a different program. i am not sure if GIMP offers noise reduction. As the rule book says :
"Selective Editing: Adjustments can be made selectively to your photo. Cloning, dodging, burning, etc. to improve your photo or remove imperfections or minor distracting elements, etc. is acceptable. However, using any editing tools to duplicate, create, or move major elements of your photograph is not permitted."
See the rules here.
Edit : Selective desaturation is also possible in Basic Editing, if you know how to do it :P

I don't understand how noise reduction would be against the rules in advanced editing ignite.
If you're responding to the selective destat question I've seen many people do it in challenges...what do you mean? |

Yeah, my camera has it built in, but I was curious about doing more than 1 color...which it can't do. |

I never said it is not allowed. Noise Reduction is allowed in Basic and Advanced. I was just clarifying the issue of selective desat being allowed in Advanced using selections. In Basic, apart from camera, people use Photoshop's Hue/Sat option to selectively desat colors, or even change them, without making selections.

If you shot it in the correct way you can do it in Basic. |
