I used a PS action to get this dreamy effect but it uses things that are not legal for dp challenges.

Is there anyway of getting this sort of effect within the rules? I`m sure i`ve seen 1 or 2 photos like this but can`t find them. I have tried blurring but the image loses all sharpness.

My guess is that NeatImage could create that effect legally. If you choose a section that has detail in it, as opposed to clear sky, etc, it could create that look.

Worth a try.

Thanks Mario will try.

I would first play around with "mild" applications of GaussianBlur, perhaps successive small adjustments.

I probably don't understand enough about NeatImage but i wonder if you first choose 'a section' to then apply that effect to the whole image, i really wonder why that would be legal for dpchallenges.
Similarly, there are actions where you use Find Edges, in photoshop, towards sharpening the image, and wonder about the legality of that as well.

Marbo, I did some tests and this is what I came up with.

This is my original (filtered on clear sky) entry.
Traditional method
This one was filtered in a non-traditional way. I did the sampling on the rocks, and it definitely gave the picture a slight haziness.
NeatImage - on detail

This could be a good substitute (DPC legal) for your ideas.

Good luck!

I only got neat image yesterday and i assumed it was legal because the winning shot in the transportation challenge used it to take the noise out of his 800 iso image.

Mario your a genius.

Now if you could all forget about this for any coming challenges.

Just out of interest what would you have scored this in the transportation challenge?

Mark, Thanks for the compliment, but I actually discovered it by accident, wanting to NeatImage a picture that had no detailess section. It did not work for the image I was working on, but retained the info for future use.

Here is my comment: Wonderful image, but the focus is a little soft....just kidding! LOL
I love the colours. The composition is execellent. So much to look at in this picture.

Good luck in the challenges.

In NeatImage you choose a section to "explain" to the application what you want it to do. It then performs the action on the whole image, thus making it legal for dpc.
