I've been on this site for a while now, so I shouldn't be surprised about DNMC comments anymore. What I've noticed with my current entry though is that there seem to be voters who actually imagine ways in which my entry could(!) not fit the challenge. Their in dubio contra reo approach frightens me. Do people actually search for opportunities to leave dnmc comments?

YES.

not i, though.

but i feel voting reflects a cross section of humankind.
people want to be nasty for the sake of feeling a purpose.

ooh that's annoying ... I use the opposite technique when voting. I try to make it meet the challenge. I got enough of that stuff in the begining when I was trying to squeeze stuff in -- now it''s pretty unlikely that I'll get a DNMC because I fear it so!

I have left e few DNMC comments in a couple resent challenges. The photos that I left this comment on to me did not come remotely close to meeting the challenge. In fact on a couple of them I am pretty sure the person entered the photo in the wrong challenge.

I donĂ¢€™t feel I am being nasty at all. What good does it do anyone to only receive positive comments? I have revived DNMC comments on some of my entries and I welcome them. To me it has no bearing on weather or not my photo is a good photo.

EDIT: positive criticism is an oxymoron, oops

got an annoying one recently...said he/she liked the image, etc. then finished with this: background does look suspicious to me. like a mask was applied.

??? (then by all means submit it for validation, but why cast aspersions in the public comment area?)

Exactly.
If some of those voters have nothing better to do than troll through our entries looking for (or making up) the negative, please go elsewhere - or get a life!

I prefer using a numerical system for voting and allow 0-2 points for meeting the challenge. I really, really try to see how it could fit the challenge.

Vote on others as you would have them vote on yours!

Oh ya...I can relate to this. The train challenge simply states "Photograph anything having to do with railroad trains"

I got a comment (without revealing too much) admitting they can see the (enter train related subjects) but it DNMC!!

Ya right!! Get a life!

Usually when I get a comment that my shot seems to be title dependent, it's because it is. If it's not obvious to the casual observer, you leave yourself open to essentially DNMC or lower votes for being title dependent. I do it all the time, unfortunately. I'm a slow learner.... :-)
