I have taken some really nice landscape pictures( at least i think they are) but the sky is a little washed out or something. Certainly not what i expected, since the sky was a very powerful deep blue when I took the pictures.

So I am wondering if thre is anyway to bring out the sky in Photoshop.

Thanks,
Brimac

There are a lot of ways:
Adjustments layers
Gradient layer
Shadow/Highlight tool
Contrast masking
Substitution with a different sky
and on
and on

have an example?

If you want to get a little bit more compicated, you can try isolating the sky. (I'm still trying to perfect this technique, because its easy to overdo). YOu can try going to SELECT>COLOR RANGE. Then on the far left of that box, take the color dropper tool, and select a sample from your sky. You will see your selected area in white, and the unselected area in black. Try playing around with the fuzziness slider to inrease/decrease your selection. Then you can always add/subtract from your selection with the lasso and magic wand tools. Then you can add some adjustment layers such as levels/ curves to your selected sky. Make sure to save your selection! You can try feathering to soften the edges of it. Just play around with this for a while and see what you can get!

what i'd probably do is copy the layer (so there are 2 layers of the same thing) and then play with Curves on the top one until you like the sky. then create a mask on that layer and mask out the rest of the landscape

Create a levels adjustment layer and adjust the picture so the sky is how you want it (don't worry about the rest of the shot). Create a layer mask and, using a soft brush at about 35% opacity, brush in the sky until it looks how you want it. You can use a curves adjustment for this as well. In fact, there are probably 20 different ways you can do this in Photoshop. Once you figure out what works best for you, you'll probably stick with it. You can also try the burn tool at about 30% set to midtones, and see if that works. Always remember you can undo it if you don't like the results...
