This little gem has been selected to part of the Regional Juried Student Snapshot Exhibition as part of the Society for Photographic Education Mid-Atlantic Conference (conference website).

The exhibit runs Thursday, Nov. 2nd through Saturday, Nov. 11th. I believe it will be in the Upper Gallery at Meyerson Hall, 210 South 24th Street, at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA. I need to doublecheck the location.

Don't listen to people that tell you that snapshots are bad!

I really wouldn't classify that as a snapshot.

Anyway...the subject of the picture is stupid, literally.

I knew there were probably one or two Bush supporters out there.

imo not a snap at all

very well composed
great tonal range on the b/w conversion
good focus
good use of dof
topical / relevant

For me it's a good pj shot. I love the look on his face, more of a bored sign holder than impassioned politico.

Nicely done and big-dog congrats.

Probably more than one or two.

lol
Either way it's a very nice capture, well composed and 'a sign of the times'. Best of luck in the exhibition.

I think this quote referred to the expression on the the protesters face and the message on the sign together.

I think both democrats and republicans are demogoging panderers but to constantly twittle on about impeaching presidents (Clinton, Bush, or whoever) seems to indicate a lower than average IQ by those doing the twittling. :-/

Well done, it looks a little to well composed for a snapshot (or perhaps my snapshots a more amaturish then most LOL).

As for the content of the image, I am behind this guy 100%, Bush is as big a terrorist as anyone else on the planet.

Anyway, I don't want to start a discussion about the biggest crook and murderer on the planet, I will concentrate on the point of this post, I like your image, but to good to be called a snap, it has a really good reportage feel to it, good job!

Photographically the subject is way too underexposed and suffers from lack of emotion both in the character and from its surroundings. It would have been much stronger if there was a passerby or perhaps a crowd he was protesting to. The tonal range could definitley be improved upon with a little simple curve action.

"No definitions were found for twittle."

And oh yeah, that's a very nice piece of work (the photograph, that is...)

It may have started as a snapshot, but I think it graduated to a nice piece of photojournalism for all the reasons stated before. I also agree with cutter's suggestion.

PS: What's the over/under on how fast this thread ends up in Rant or gets locked?

Twittle is an urban word for female felatio. The general basic meaning is similar to giving a blowjob. Meaning no substance to the action other than a quick feel good. :-)

And the photo is interesting if you take the look of person holding the sign ( basic indifference to a powerful statement put to a trivial show of hands by honking) which is sort of interesting. Technically it feels very photojournalsitic which is good but would score poorly here :-/

Is this closer to what you're talking about?

Yeah def looking better. You can't really insert any secondary subjects, but in terms of toning. But actually it would be even better if the background especially to the left and behind was burned to make the subject pop.

Yes, it's silly to think the Congress would impeach a President for violating the Constitution when it just passed a law that violates the Constitution.

I like the picture. I like that he seems to be all alone, and that his eyebrows match the font on his sign.
10/25/2006 01:14:44 PM · #17
the other thing that cracks me up about this is the sign seems to indicate that by simply honking the president will be removed - that's funny to me.

My thought was the dark tones were pretty muddy on the original, but if it's already selected, can editing take place after the fact?

I think it's way beyond a snapshot - and really nice work. Congrats.

And thanks to those who can't put down their political ideals for one second to just look at a photo - crack me up!

I say the government lies - impeach them all! hehe...

Every presidency there's some group clamoring to impeach the guy. Nothing new there. Personally I find the braying of a bunch of people who are not lawyers and know next to nothing about the law, history and politics to be pretty humorous, albeit irritating after a while. Frankly anyone not arming themselves and getting ready to start a bloody revolution is a massive hypocrite. They suck at the same corrupt tit of capitalism as the rest of us, politicians included, and don't have the common sense to stay quiet about their complicity.

Anyway, this particular photo would be great for all sorts of messages. Got the big white board at just the right angle. Replace his message with something else any time you like.

Good luck.

I did not hear that Ramsey Clark lost his law credentials.

I'm not sure what your point is. I suppose I should have spent more than 5 seconds on my tounge in cheek prose so that no one could then come later and identify an actual lawyer who wants the president impeached in some weak attempt to counter what I said.

Anyway, yes, Ramsey Clark is a lawyer.

He is currently serving on Sadaam Hussein's defense team.

You look up to interesting people...

LOL!!! Yeah, wanting to impeach buch is one thing (hey, it's your right to speak your voice), defending a murderous dictator against the prosecution of his own former citizens is a little unconscionable.

The lowest lowlife is entitled to a competent defense -- that's what makes (or used to make) our system of justice different from and better than that found under Mr. Hussein's regime and in many other parts of the world.

true, but I wouldn't be the one to intentionally go out and take on that task, as Mr. Clark did. Considering that his acts have gone down in the annals of current history (another oxymoron!), it seems kind of an exercise in futility anyways.

I'm not stating anything about the war or Bush here, just Saddam. I'd rather not force more than one thread to rant in a year.

BTW: Just came across this alarming information currently posted at the official White House website. Use with caution ...

I am 5'8" - Mr. Clark may be taller. Apologize for confusing you - but my post is about photography.
