No idea on the 1s, as I would not have voted that low. But, just as a thought ... what turns me off is that the skin looks very "plastic", as if too much neat image had been applied.

it didn't deserve to score that low at all. i gave it a five, simply because it didn't have much wow factor because i was really being drawn towards the hair & not the face.
i got five 1 votes myself, that i didn't understand. just remember those votes aren't personal& don't let them discourage you. |

No NI was used at all. That's her skin tone.

Unfortunately your title suggested that you shot it for another challenge, which apparently is a big no-no according to the DPC trolling guide. Too bad you didn't have a nice landscape backdrop. Would have made a big difference.
Seriously though, renefunk's right. Voters here are just plain mean. There's no valid reason whatsoever for that to get a 1. None.

It's not the "tone" (I understand "tone" to mean color). It's the texture. Neat Image is used to remove noise. In the process it, of course, gets rid of texture. So while I'm not saying that you used it, what I am saying is that her skin appears to lack texture. There is sharpness in her nose, in her lips and in her teeth, but if you look at her skin, it's as if the texture has been removed.
There are other ways for this to happen (besides NI). So my saying that "it looks as if neat image had been applied" is merely a method of describing what the absence of texture looks like.
Just trying to be helpful based on what I see and how it affects me.

I know what you meant, even though I said it wrong. But other than the USM and contrast/brightness, nothing was done.

Not sue about 1's, but I would have rated it below 5 for sure as it doesn't really meet the challenge criteria (the way I intepreted it). |

to say that lighting is not a key factor in mike's shot is short sighted IMO. |

I wasn't in class the day those were handed out. Would you have a copy I can borrow? |

That's your opinion. To me it just doesn't meet the criteria for me, but that's why we vote. ;-) |

Why don't you post an image or enter a challenge and take a little of your own medicine. It is hard to value your opinion when you have nothing to back it up with.

Guys...thanks. I was ticked about all the 1s and 2s. Cuz I didn't think I deserved that many. But I didn't want this turning into an argument. Everyone has their own opinions (whether right or wrong).
Have I mentioned that y'all are great?

It'd be nice if it was the former. What lenses are you going to get with it?

I'm getting Jim's old lenses to start with. That way I can spend some money on a remote, flash, CF cards, blah blah...without going over my budget.
And yeah, it would be nice, but I wouldn't expect anyone to do that.
