pc 1Xp
pc 2Xp Media Ctr
Dell printer-I need it for cheap printing of documents.

I see the Dell printer on both pc's.
It's working fine on pc #1.
On pc #2 when I try to print it says Communication not available "can not communicate with computer".
Any ideas? I have rebooted both pc's, unplugged/plugged. I see the exception for print-sharing in the firewalls.
I'm lost and have searched Google/MS and don't see the answer to this.

i'll presume you have shared the printer ?
are you using any other firewalls ?

One is on Xp firewall the other is on Norton but both show the exceptions checked.
shared yes, did that on both pc's.

you can see the printer in your network neigberhood ?
you have allowed printer & file sharing in your workgroup ?
can you see files form one machine to the other ?

Everything seems right but obviously something is wrong.

Although both computers see the printer, have you installed the drivers on both computers?

NO.
I would assume they are on the pc#1 because it works fine there.
So #2 is without drivers.
;{< I r dumb.
I didn't think of that. I will have to get them.
thanks!! Hope that's the ticket.

Did you get your printer working? What was the problem?

Thanks for the thoughtful follow-up.
I tried. I spent an hour on the phone with my brother in law in Alaska. He's a geek, but even with his help it was a no go.
I solved the problem but just buying a new printer for PC#2.

It wasn't drivers, I think it has to do with the Dell printer, but whatever it is I'm done.
:) Thanks again.
