I am so tired of people trying to rip me off!! I rarely use my paypal account because of the constant barrage of bogus e-mails claiming to be from paypal. And altough I do quite a bit of shopping online I have never bought anything on e-bay. I just have never felt comfortable that I wouldn't get ripped off.

Well, I broke down and bid on a 4x5 view camera. I did not "win" but I received a "2nd Chance Offer" e-mail. Having never purchased anything on e-bay I had no idea what it was. I talked to a friend who is an avid e-bay buyer/seller and she explained that it is not unusual to get a 2nd Chance Offer. So when I got home from work I replied to the e-mail saying that I was still interested.

Something just did not seem right, so I went to e-bay and did some reading about 2nd Chance Offers. As it turns out, the e-mail was bogus!

So for those of you who might get one of these "2nd Chance Offers", if it is legit I will be on your "My E-Bay" page. My e-mail said to contact the seller directly. It looked identical to the e-bay page and even included links to e-bay and to the item I was bidding on. (Maybe everyone except me already knows this)

I didn't lose any money as I caught on before it got that far, but it just chaps my ass that some jerk-off tried to burn me for $450. I am now wondering if the prick will have the gall to e-mail me again.

(venting complete, feeling better now)

Yep - You have got to be real careful with paypal and ebay.
I get scam mails all the time from both. Just ignore anything that comes via email. Use only your "MyEbay" page.

1. Whenever possible, try to see what the link to the assumed eBay page really points to - without clicking on it, sometimes just by hovering over it you can tell if it is on ebay.com or on some other site, usually something with ebay in the name but not ebay.com

2. You can also safely assume that if the seller is asking for email communication to complete a transaction, the seller isn't legit.

3. if you really received the 2nd chance offer, it will show up as an buy-it-now item with your highest bid, and you can continue with the transaction on ebay (see 1. for how to make sure that the web page is really an ebay web page.)

I bought stuff on ebay with the 2nd chance offer, but it was legit and on all occassions I went through the ebay.com to do that.
