According to DPReview.com, the new 400D has a "Nine point Auto Focus sensor (same as EOS 30D) with F2.8 support".
I have a few questions:
1. What is F2.8 support? I assume this means if you have a lens that is f/2.8 or faster, you get better focus. Can anyone elaborate on this? How much more accurate would the focus be?
2. Does my 350D have f/2.8 support?
3. How much better is the 400D than the 350D when it comes to focusing? Is the focusing actually more accurate? I know it has a 9 point focus rather than the 350D's 7 point.
Thanks for your help.

F/2.8 support means that if you are using a lens with a maximum aperture of 2.8 or lower the camera is able to focus faster/more acurately.

The center AF point is a cross type sensor that gives you 3x more precison with a lens that has f/2.8 or better (you need it for the shallower DOF).
IIRC, only one direction (horizontal or vertical) of the cross type sensor has the beter sensitivity at f/2.8.
Note that all the other AF points are sensitive in either the horizontal or vertical direction, but not both. |
