Dumberest challenge evah!
I can see some possibilities, but they all involve people.

Essentially, this isn't after the game, it's an "empty stadium" challenge. Just go to an arena/ballfield/stadium when it isn't in use and then you'll meet the challenge description.
I think the use of people would be much more interesting. |

Any stadium/ballpark, etc...won't work unless it's recently been used IMO. I see creative shots of bleachers and fan leftovers dominating this one. Someone else mentioned janitors, etc...well, just shoot around them, especially if it's a larger stadium, shouldn't be a problem. |

You think? So we're going to have a bunch of bleachers with garbage on them? There has to be a more creative (and open-minded) way of approaching the challenge. Who's to say how far after the game we're talking about? Maybe the janitors have cleaned up and left. |

Obviously an individual decision to make. Good luck. :D |

hehe, thanks...you are making me wonder now. I really don't want to take a shot of garbage and leftover fan debris.
I'm kinda hoping it changes to "at the game" |

I am going to a band competition tomorrow at a football stadium. The organizers have declared any camera with a removable lens, or any camera with a lens over 4" is "professional" and will not be allowed in. Makes me MOST unhappy!
(I won't say which stadium because they graciously allow p&s's, so there is a chance I can get something usable.) |

Good luck, and have fun! What instrument does your family member play? Marching band - yes? Those competitions are a great time. :D |

I shot my kids' competition this past weekend (one plays flute, one on colorguard) and nobody said a word to me about all of the equipement - tripod & all. Sucks when you can't shoot your own kids in public! :(
Edit to mention: I DID get a bit of grief about shooting at my daughter's beauty pagent last spring, I actually pulled out my photographers' rights and put the little pagent coordinator in her place and kept shooting!! It was great! :)

that is upseting. i don't live near my son so don't see his band competitions but when i get to one I dare someone to tell me i can't shoot it. jsut because i have professional equipment.
unless of course you are talking about rock bands which it just hit me as i was typing. then i can kinda see thier rules. |

Definitely marching band! My senior plays alto sax and my freshman plays trumpet. The competitions held at college or high school stadiums let you take camcorders and whatever camera/lens you want to. The ones that use domes are more restrictive, but the "professional" limits were set by the organizing group.
We do 4 competitions a year--every weekend in October. I love going but I am also glad when they are done! |

Your challenge this week is deceptively simple: photograph a sporting venue after the game is over and the players and people have gone home :-)
I understand this to mean it has to be a vacant venue. No people in the picture. right? |

People in the picture would be a DNMC unless they are not IN the venue eg: I'd allow a cleaner in an otherwise empty pool hall as the games are clearly over but a player leaning against a bar in a pool hall would be DNMC as they are one of the "players or people" - just my take on DNMC |
