I had a few folks ask what I was trying to convey with this entry.
It's my somewhat twisted take on / loosely inspired by the song Alice's Restaurant.
I had been listening to it that day and came up with the idea. If you know the song, the flag is somwhat appropriate, and added a little color to boot.
As far as the grey card goes, there isn't any real significance to it - I just had to hide the face to meet the challenge, and it was handy. I don't know if folks noticed the hat or not.
I wasn't trying to make any political statement. It just seemed like a unique idea. I didn't say it was necessarily a good one.....
Every time I have tried to do something a bit artistic it has bombed. It's still fun to go way outside the box. It certainly helps keep your average down. |

OMG haven't thought about Alices' Resturant in ages. A Thanksgiving classic. Good stuff, Sam. I think the gray card hurt the challenge entry, you could have just turned away or used the hat to hide your face (see my entry). Still nice tribute.

I never fail to play it on Thanksgiving. "City of New Orleans" and "The motorcycle song - the significance of the pickle" are both year-round favorites.
I had tried various poses to hide the face but none worked. The grey card was just a stupid reflex. |

it's funny,
I live 1 mile away from the Church (in Great Barrington), and 2.5 miles from the restaurant (Lenox).

The design is similar yet the flag brings in some mixed feelings. Arlo's story is patriotic in a 60s way - in that going off to murder Vietnamese for the sake of stopping communism was not an OK thing in sane circles. Your image has an overt symbol of patriotism which, when I look back and think of Vietnam or Iraq somewhat disgusts me. |

I'll have that in my head all day now, which is not a bad thing at all...
"On the Group W bench...."
"Just waiting for it to come around again on the guitar.."
"... and he looked at the seein' eye dog..."
Great song. |
