I was cruising around the web and came across 47th St Photo. Anyone dealt with them or purchased anything from them. There is a tremendous deal Deal of a 0.5 wide angle and 2x zoom (for Nikon and many others) for $109 (regular $499 according to them).
The thing I am looking at is, it states it is 52mm and for the 5700. I have the UR-E8 adapter for the Nikon 5700 (for the telephoto, etc lenses), and it is not 52mm, because the 52mm filters I have will not fit, they are just slightly too big.
Anyone had this problem? Anyone dealt with this company? <--the main thing I would like to know

Haven't used them myself, but saw a testimonial from somebody the other day (I think on this site) singing their praises. They said their service was very good. I know this isn't the same as a personal recommendation, but hope it helps.

I just lost my full post, so I'll start again in summarized fashion.
Bought a set of telephoto and wide angle lenses from the same vendor you are considering. It was advertised for the Powershot G2.
What I got ... approx. 1.25X telephoto. and .80 wide angle. I don't use the telephoto, but I like the wide angle because it's sligthly wider and I like the perspective distortion (sort of fish eye).
In summary ... you get what you pay for.
Warming ... just because they advertise Wide angle and telephoto for Cool Pix 5700, they still are generic lenses made by obscure companies. Good luck finding anything on the web regarding these "professional lenses".
If you're a gamblin' man, get it. If you'd hate to waste your hard earned dollars, save up and get a Tiffen, Olympus, or Nikon lens.

I have not dealt with them, they do have a very high rating on resellerratings.com...
//www.resellerratings.com/seller3456.html
I looked at the ad, and can tell you these lenses would never be sold for $499. These are relatively simple optical systems, no more than a couple elements, I would bet. They may give satisfactory results, but probably will marked.y increase chromatic abberations.
I don't like 47th Street's marketing these as high-quality lenses when they clearly are not.
I can't find anything on Opteka as a company, and that adds to my wariness...

Can't find the thread, but I asked the same question a couple of months ago when I was looking at a telephoto lens for my 707 by the same company. Several people said to stay away from that company. Since then, I have talked to a number of experienced and/or professional photographers who ALL told me in no uncertain terms to get my lens from Sony if I want the best quality lens.

The way I look at online camera shops is:
-If they are selling their accessories at bloated prices.
-If they are offering some "special, once in a lifetime professional" deal that they claim is retail $2,000 and selling it for $250. In reality it's only about a $175 worth of useless junk.
-If they show retail price for a lens cleaning kit anymore than $15.
-If all the generic pieces of equipment they sell are their "top of the line professional gear".
Then I wouldn't give them a penny. Way too many other, more honest places to do business with in my opinion.
You have a sweet little camera. If it were me, I wouldn't attach anything that didn't say Nikon infront of the lens. And your link that you showed proves my point. There's no way those adapters cost $500. These are some generic brand, re-branded hunks of glass, that someone is getting a cut-throat deal on because their probably being handed out from a backdoor in an alley.

I was looking at these lenses as well. I also sent a couple of questions to the vendor.
I asked about the number of elements and number of groups for the quality of the optics and they said 7 and 5 respectively. I tried to find info about Opteka on the web and found absolutely nothing. I also asked them if they had any info about these lenses and got ignored. (no response was received to that question). I also questioned their shipping charges since there is no direct reference to what the shipping would be for Canada and they quoted something outrageous.

tracy, a coworker of mine got the wide angle lens for his Sony 717 from this place and I played with it for a bit and looked it over. He had no problems with the purchase and it was shipped pretty quickly.
We did a few test with the lens on and off and compared the images and it does a good job producing wider angle shots, but the image quality was degraded some.

Thanks for all the input. Was wanting to get a few opinions. I am of the thinking (even before) that the only way to go is with the cameras maker, since they have special ones for it and I KNOW they will fit. Thanks again.
