That seems to happen a lot on challenges, people not understanding the challenge criteria, making it what they want it to be, or even worse, not even attempting to meet the challenge. You can always find those images rated just slightly higher than whatever I have submitted (lol). |

If I could only use the votes that occurred on my entries between the hours of 10 pm - 6 am CST US, All my entries would score at least .5 or more higher. I like my foreign friends :) |

Just a guess, but I'd say about 75% hit the mark, the other 25%, not so much. |

I did. I'm not in this challenge. I must confess that I did not 'get' many of the images or titles as oxymorons.

I never remember to vote too low as this challenge. It is poorly done. No original ideas, and I put myself in the list.
People sees does not read a dictionary when found an uncommon word.

It's worth noting that many lists of oxymorons found online include lots of phrases that I personally wouldn't consider an oxymoron (or at least a weak one). That doesn't necessarily mean it ISN'T one, only that I have a different interpretation. There are probably different types and levels of oxymorons, as well as language barriers and different cultural meanings. This was a tough challenge!
Oops... fixed quote!

I find it very frustrating to see the comments about people that didn't know what an oxymoron was. Where were all of you during the week when the thread was showing that shared lists of oxymorons?
Try taking a look at this thread
In it are several lists of oxymorons. Some are looser, others, more exact, but all are considered valid ideas.
It is not the place of this thread to limit the definition of any word. Vote as you wish based on your own narrow or broad definition, but leave out your comments that sway the voting until after the voting is finished. |

My apologies for the misquote - Edited to correct.

I totally agree, I read some of the posted "Oxymoron" lists, and found many of them not exactly an oxymoron, but simply humourous.( or supposed to be!)
And we should remember, just cuz it is on a website, doesnt mean it is accurate (please refer to male preganancy thread as further proof, haha)
I was not putting anyone down, I was simply stating that I saw alot of shots that did not seem to understand the challenge, in my small humble opinion, don't get all freaky, please!!!I meant no malice!!!!!!!!!

Now don't everyone get all "freaky" on me as Rae-Ann has so aptly said, but does anyone else out there feel that these "show your score" threads can be quite discouraging? I am being quite hypocritical because I'm the first person to scour through them, but I gotta say, there is nothing worse than seeing posts from people getting a "dreaded" 5 or higher (their personal worst, poor things) when you are sittin there with a stinky 'ol 4. I happen to be doing well this challenge(for a relative newcomer)and I wanted to jump gleefully on board and post my score ...but I think I will instead say this... To those with a score you consider crappy, undeserved, or disappointing remember that this is actually fun. Don't lose enthusiasm. You'll just kick butt next challenge! |

You have to look past that, when you get your first 6, you will want to post it! Don't be discouraged!!
You can't compare your scores to others, take it in the context of your own work only.
And you are right, when my score isn't what I wished for ( usually!) I just fergit abut it..and focus on the next challenge!

Be proud of yourself if you're improving, regardless of the actual score. :) And be proud of yourself if YOU like your shot and are having fun. It sounds like you're winning on both levels, Rompy. :)
I try to remember to put my comments about my score in context of my own standards for myself. For example, I'm now sitting here:

I've been in a major slump other than the free studies. I've had a few 6+ shots, so the current score isn't as good as I'd like for myself. But when I hit 5.7 the first time, you better believe I crowed about it!
On the other hand, I have a favorite, and boy, oh boy, do those 6 commenters make me feel good. I think this is one where the score of the commenters is going to be waayyyy higher than the average. But that still makes me feel pretty good - it means I connected to at least some people.

Currently up from 4.6 yesterday to 5.2 today. Wow that was some harsh voting yesterday. Personally I'll be happy if this shot stays around 5.something, because there were a couple of flaws in the image, but - in general - I think it's a good shot. |

The Trolls have finally left and my score is coming back.
I was actually hoping for a 6.5 but, that was only hope.
What makes me really happy is that there is one Favorite :-)
That tells me more than the score can do.

Well said. My first entry upon joining last less than 2 months ago was for the Free Study. Well, as a fellow DPC'er mentioned,it's going to be tough because everyone will be entering their "A" Game. And, it was. My image got what I thought was a bad score (4.5) but now that I look back on it, it wasn't too bad for a first shot and even better, someone liked it enough to make it a favorite. So, I'm happy with it and even happier that at least one other person out there thought good things about it too.
Now if I could just get 1 pic to hit that 5.5 mark I would be happy. Highest yet is a 5.2 so I just have to roll my eyes when I see people complaining about a 6. We all have our own level of standards that we want to accomplish so I guess it is an apples to oranges comparison as one person's 6 maybe another persons 1 or 10.
I just want to get better technically. I've seen ribbon winners that I gave as low as a 4 and pictures given 4's or 5's that I've given 9's.
Photos are too subjective and so long as they move me and those closest to me, that's all that is truly important.

But it is going up. I'm now into "seems about right" territory, anyway.
At this rate, it'll be a 6 by next spring!
