Why is DPC like a Roller Coaster Ride.....
I seems to be having EXTREME HIGHS & also EXTREME LOWS lately.
One minute, I love seeing my images in the mid 6's, and then sometime later, they are in the mid 5's.....
I don't really understand the huge differances, just like a roller coaster ride, that is happening lately.
It make me feel so disillusioned, and quite sad, and sometimes wonder if it is really worth it.
My biggest fear is, am I any good as a photographer, and wonder if it is who I am, is what interests people, rather than what I am.
It really is just so dam hard sometimes.
Photography has definately given me my life back, and now more than ever, re our personal struggle, as it takes me into another world.
Does this make sense. I never had so many highs, and so many lows lately in my DPC life.
Does anyone else feel like this sometimes.....or is it just a bad "Hair" day for me.

The numbers in voting don't prove anything... You are a great photographer! |

I hear ya. My last two entries (counting my current one) has me once again at a valley. I appreciate the positive comments but it gets old when you receive comments that say "top ten" or "this should ribbon" and other silly stuff when my score is running 5.5 or there abouts.

Ditto, You are a great Photographer.
I think that Photography seems deceivingly easy. There are about a million ways something can go wrong and just when you think you get it right public opinion differs.
I have decided its a lifelong journey that for me will never be perfected. Even if I become a certified master photographer I believe I would still be looking for a better image. I come and go and usually come back to it during difficult times. You are right it takes you into a different world and it speaks to everything that is passionate about life.
Kudo's to your scores, I am still struggling to get scores in the lows 6's.
Your passion about this art has personally inspired and motivated me to become a better photographer.

I've found the perfect solution. The best way to ensure my score at the start of a challenge remains the same for the whole week.
I just don't enter any... muahahahahahaaaaa!! |

I know what you are talking about even though your photographs are very good you wonder way did this one score in the fives and the other in the sixes. For the last several months I have been studying different photographs of all kinds of edits. I have to admit I have increased my overall average and hit a few more sixes than in the past. After looking at hundreds if not thousands of photographs to learn, I have come up with this analogy that I apply to my photographs.
I have found out that no amount of editing can make up for a photograph without a good foundation; composition, lighting, and focus. I have also learned that editing is like gymnastics in that you have to make a conscience decision ΓΆ€“ Do I go light on the editing and my photo will probably end up in the x.xxxx range or do I go for a good amount of editing knowing that if I fail points will be lost - but if I stick the landing then points will be gained.
So when I take a picture now I take it as if I am not going to be able to edit. Then when I edit the photograph I weight the benefits vs. the risk on loosing or gaining points. In other words grunge, noise reduction, and other plug-ins will not work with all photographs and voters. At the stroke of midnight it's the voters that score your photograph but the only thing that counts how you view it.

DPC is like a roller coaster ride because at the finish you'll either want to go again or throw up. ;-) |

No, no. It's "after you have thrown up you'll want to throw up again and this time photograph it!" :P

I think it would be more accurate to say, "As soon as the action starts, you either realize this is going to be a fun ride or you feel like throwing up." |
