Yes, it is very much so a worthwhile upgrade. It about more than MP - lower noise, faster FPS, bigger buffer, better AF system, will AF in lower light, bigger LCD, picture styles, custom functions, more metering options and lots more little things like the wheel on the back, the buttons and LCD on top, build quality, etc, etc, etc.

if you need large prints how large are you printing? The 30D is 30% more pixels and lower noise with a better AF system.

Read the post...I'm printing 30x40 for galleries and I'm competing with people who shoot medium format and scan. 8MP will not cut it no matter how much I want it to.

I will pretty well only buy L-glass, so we agree there.

Then this is the camera for you Doc!

22MP at about $1000 per MP, no lens included.

ahhh, wouldn't that just be AWESOME? I'll tell you what, after I make my first $50,000 in photography, I'll invest in one...

Google in Canon 5D. I have seen it online for less than $2000.

Then use the $500 for a lens!

Online for less than $2000 does not mean you will receive one after paying less than $2000... ;) I know better than that.

Maybe, but I got Photoshop CS2 legit copy for $200 online. I get updates etc.

I've seen prints from the 1Ds as large as you want, absolutely stunning in their detail. Only $7200 ish (Only $5300 if you believe everything you see on the web)

MF is pretty damned good, detail wise. good luck!

I'm confused, is there a replacement pending for the 5D?

We don't know, eventually :-) the odds are at least 18 months after it's release, which is another 6 months. However after another month Canon is likely going to release what their plans are. :-) Here is hoping

We don't know and those that do aren't saying. The $300 rebate for the past 3 months would indicate that something's up

My Advice: Wait until Canon announces/releases a new DSLR, and all their current prices should drop.

If you can wait, that is. I know it's tough!

Tell us about the deal, I'm looking at doing it too if the right deal comes around.

$1500 in expenses. Some of it was leveraged by taking advantage of software I have access to at cost. Just a bit of creative dealing and being in the right place at the right time.
