for remote operaton of my camera and other things. What's the minimum as far as processor speed and RAM I could get to do this? Office depot has a Compaq on sale for $449 after rebates. It has an AMD Turion ML-28 processor, 512mb of DDR memory with a 80 gig hard drive and a 15.4" brightview widescreen display.

The main thing with using a laptop with photography is, 1) The graphic ability. Shared memory or does it have it own memory. 2) 512 Mb is kind of low it could cause your system to run slow. 3) Size of hard drive, will you have enough space.

What is the model # or do you have a link to the laptop?

you definitely don't want any less than 512 of RAM. Maybe even get it upgraded to 1gig

Not sure if you can access this website but these are standard recommendations for laptops:Laptop Recommendations

If you can't access the website, the minimum recommended RAM is 1.0GB and hard disk of 60GB even for value priced ($1,000) laptops.

Examples of such laptops are the Apple iBook/G4, the Apple MacBook (in its lower priced versions), the Dell Latitude D520, the Dell Latitude D620 (in its lower priced versions), and the Lenovo ThinkPad T60 (in its lower priced 14-inch versions).
