I took this shot this summer and edited it today. I know, it's different then what I usually do, but this photo really is great full-size (really! it looks a bit schmoochy smallsized)
The problem: the reflection of the flamingo's isn't great. It's cut off because at that point there was land.
Who wants to help me out and tell / show me how to get a 100% reflection?
Thanks so much!
(ps, I have a full size. If you want that one, please tell me, and I'll send it to you. But rather I'd like to learn myself!)

You might use a flood filter. A quick google search should bring up some for PSP or PS.

is that what you meant? ive never done it before so I just had to learn it myself for your shot. tell me if its what you meant cause i'm not sure.
by the way in photoshop i cloned out the old reflection. selected the real birds then copied to a new layer. used free transform to flip it placed it where i wanted it then used a mask to make the land slightly more translucent in the "relection"

hey yeah that's a good start!
in the original you can see the riples of the water, and I'd like them in there too. I think that's where the flood filter comes in handy!
Thank you Crystal, I'm gonna try it like this. When I was wrestling with this image, I didn't copy the land with it, and it looked weird. Now I know why..
thanks! |

Thats hard to do. I tried to get the ripples back but couldn't. so I went crazy and just used the liquify tool. lol. it's just a joke really. I know it doesnt look good. lol I agree about the land. for some reason to me at least it looks better with the land even though I'm sure it wouldnt really be reflected like that.

Use the flood plug in on a separate layer then delete out the area of land. You'll have a mirror image reflection, you can control or remove the ripples of the water, and it'll take about 15 minutes.

Why don't you just add some blur where the land was so that the black doesn't make a sharp line anymore and nobody will be able to tell? Are you ready for WPL3 to start up? I hear probably the first week of November.

whoops. I just realized I spelled your name wrong on those workshop photos. I spelled it differently on each one and they were BOTH wrong. lol SORRY! I fixed it. maybe I'll have to write it over and over again for homework until I get it right. :P |

Here's my attempt for you. I didn't copy the land, only the upper portion of the flamingos.
1. Made a duplicate layer
2. Selected upper part of flamingos and copied it onto it's own layer.
3. Flipped the heads and changed opacity to 50%, moved into place.
4. Moved layer with flipped heads beneath duplicate layer and changed duplicate layer opacity to to 70%
Edit to add:
I went back in and added a ripple effect on the heads layer to continue the ripples in the water. The whole thing would probably look better if you took the time to get the alignment better and played with the opacity of the layers more.
