Ok, lets find out some more about you, and tell us your favorite way you take photos.
What tricks do you use, and what things you take along to help you with your shoot.

Well first of all, my height can be an advantage, re macro shots, and images that are at my eye level, and also for being so close to the ground. Sometimes my height can also be a disavantage as well. Especially something tall, but often use my zoom lens in this situation, but this can be a good surprise, as it gives me a differant angle to my image, looking up from the ground situation.

I think that is one reason I see things differantly, re my plant, and flower shots, as they are usually in my face, all the time.

Another secret is that I always take everything with me in a bumb bag and also my camera bag, just in case I need it.
I often take a stool, but my monopod, as it is excellent as a walking stick, in the sand, and the grass, and also the bush.

My other trick is that I now have a old paint brush in my bag, to dust off any cobwebs, or other unwanted things I don't want in my photo.

I love to hear what you take and use with you, when shooting images. Please share your ideas here as well.

Uh... with the lens cap off.

After that, my next favorite way to take pictures is remembering to put the ISO back down after a night of shooting at 1600.

Lastly, I love to shoot with auto focus turned on.

(sorry, I couldn't think of any really cool ideas .. maybe someone else will have something better to share)

Being legally blind, I tend to go for tight crops and close zooms. It suits my vision better. Autofocus is a must for me, I can viasually confirm a focus lock on the part of the image I want, but can't count on myself to manually focus.

I like a choice of zoom lenses from wide to telephoto. I also love fill flash and reflectors for outdoor portraits.

Alone.

I'm 6'3", but find that I actually like to sit down with my new tripod down as low as it goes and shoot landscapes that way - sorta' a different angle than the norm. I also like to shoot around F/16 with a ND filter in place. I usually carry my whole bag and change lenses often.

When I'm actually working and doing photojournalism, I'm just the opposite, and like to shoot F/2.8 with just the camera and a flash and not have to carry anything around, so I can be highly mobile.

And as the others said, making sure the AutoFocus is on really helps a lot.

Auto Focus - my vision is lousy

If I dont have a tripod, then I try to always find something to brace up against, or rest the camera on as I have a problem with hand tremors. So unless I'm shooting in enough light that I can use a fast shutter speed, I can't trust myself hand holding.

I like shooting in Manual mode. I may set the camera to TV or AV from time to time, but often I find myself switching back to manual, making an adjustment for the exposure I'm after and then going and shooting another shot of the same thing.

I try to shoot a subject from at least two different angles, of not 3-4. Different perspectives make the mundane more intersting.

Alone so I can think clearly and with no time schedule so I don't feel rushed. I also carry my full bag with me on all outings so I can have anything I want easily at hand -- including extra batteries and lots of memory. Auto focus - yes 90% of the time. I'm a fairly small woman and I get nervous with my equipment so I like to go where I can stay fairly close to my car and places that aren't VERY isolated. I like to just wander and see where my lens takes me -- too much planning usually goes badly for me.

I will add that I too like going off by myself with no time restraints. As Cindi said - letting the lens lead the way, being free to wander aimlessly.

I knew you were a wanderer too, Linda ;)

I wander too. I take a large portion of my pictures at a provincial park near my home called Bronte Creek Park. It's forest, fields, farms, paths, orchards, playgrounds, basketball courts, hills, roads, ancient parking lots, old silos, and a few nineteenth century houses. It's got it all. :) I've been going there for decades, and usually go at least once a week to shoot, just wandering around.

yes alone as well
I really enjoy the rightangle viewer to get close to the gound OR look into viewer when the tripod is >6ft ;)
without looking - i think 80% of my shots are table top stuff. ..

I use my Angle Finder C all the time not just for macro shots. It's great for getting extreme angles without much effort. Also, I use the DPC screw-on filter which makes it easier to determine the best shots to enter challenges although I think I have a defective version.

Thanks everyone for your comments here, as they are so interesting to read.....

I forgot to add that my eye site is really bad as well, so always rely on autofocus, all the time.....

Just my sentiments. I tend to be drawn to emptinesses (there we have a new plural!), swept or open spaces, which may or may not be crossed by all kinds of beings on missions. I am obsessed with location, the sense and spirit of 'em. Ideally, by now, I'm in the zone, meaning I will have withdrawn from the usual human hubbub, so that

any mission would open itself to absurdity: a desirable vantage for pictures I like to take. I have a very physical relationship with my camera. It's like a limb or I need it to be like one, so we don't interfere with one another.

I walk a lot and try... to let a place or subject pick the shot. When I press the shutter, it's not me or the camera, it's sheer excitement in a connected sort of way. I love giving my mind to the moment so I can become what I photograph.

Personally, I like to spin the camera while shooting. And I'm not kidding:

And I do a lot of shooting from very low. So I get pretty dirty. I have only a 4 foot tripod, very lightweight, which folds up into something that looks like a table top tripod. And it can get the camera down to a couple inches. However, I don't have an angle viewer, so I end up on the ground with it.

Lastly, I now wear waterproof (resistant) hiking shoes so I'm not afraid to step right into the stream.

What I really want to get is the rubber pants hunters wear (anyone know what those are called?). We have a marsh near us and the only way to get the shot I want is to wade right in! An angle viewer would be good too. Really miss the old G2's fully articulating LCD on my SLR.
