Please help me understand where this went wrong, keeping in mind it was a basic challenge (i.e., I know the levels aren't great, but I did what I could with whole image editing).
The commenters voted 5.6, which is about where I expected it to land.
For the 166 voters who didn't comment, why'd you vote as you did? I'm especially interested in hearing from the 1s, 2s, and 3s.
Was it the idea? The processing? The fact I needed a shave? Did you assume it was a composite (it wasn't)?
All critiques appreciated; I'm here to learn, not complain about the score.
Thanks!
If you want to play with it yourself, here's the original:

bumping so it doesn't get lost!
ok my comment...
i would have to say if you had a little bit more of a contrast that pops...you have a dull type of contrats....
does that make sense?
btw i didn't vote just giving you a comment!

From a DPC perspective this is very weak PP. The bright side is washed out, the dark side is muddy. The whole is unappealing, and each individual image is totally lacking in "high contrast"; the only contrast in the shot is the juxtaposition of the two shots. And of course, since it is basic editing you are fairly limited in tools to cope with this. But, while it's conceptually nice, the bottom line is the execution feels sloppy or perhaps haphazard.

that's what i got after a quick five minute edit. It could stand alot mroe refining but I lack patience. lol. I like the full crop better also It just didnt seem doable under basic editing rules. i used advanced. with basic if i made one side right the other would be all messed up. Hope that helps. |

Thanks, Bear and Jaded_youth. Yep, Basic was the challenge in editing! Maybe my overall lesson here is not to try some things under Basic rules. :) |
