After reading a whole lot of stuff in the Portrait Lighting thread, I decided to get some lights and experiment. I submitted one in the free study, but didn't do as well as I expected...

thanks Pam!
I was using 2 400W alienbees strobes with a softbox on one and umbrella on the other with seamless paper backdrop.

The first 2 in B/W are my favorites ... now I need to get a few alienbees and start practicing!

Looks great! The only critical comment I have is on the one with the red scarf - it's a little dark on the right side of her face, and I think it's this darkness that makes her eyes ... a bit unbalanced?

Again, good work!
