I had a couple of comments last week suggesting more or less sky in my shot. Here are my outtakes for negative space:
Negative Space Outtakes
There are also some of the other photos I took as possible submission candidates in there.
Comments and criticisms are welcome and appreciated.

FWIW I think you chose the right shot.
I don't think the 50% land 50% sky shot works too well, it's too 'normal'. The two thirds/one third shots are much better. I think that too much of a blue sky in this situation would not have created the WOW in the same manner that your submitted photo did.
You certainly found an interesting looking tree for your other shots but again I'm glad you stayed with the shot you chose.
Tim.

You might have placed better with oasis 4.
I think your entry was great and gave it a 10 but always remember..this is a public voting site witha 1-10 scale..sorta like a Jones Soda.
For here you need very obvious photos. Your original entry may not have been as obvious a negative space photo as the oasis 4. For some reason most folks equated negative space with a big blank section of the photo instead of placement alone. |

I gave you a 9 only because I thought the horizon could be straighter. I fully appreciated the NS in this shot, and thought it had great impact. :)
edit: maybe your horizon doesn't have to be straight, but I am a "rules" follower, which is why NS bothers me to begin with. :) Anyway, I gave you a "you have made your statement" comment during the challenge. I still think it makes a good statement.

I really liked the shot you submitted but like #4 very much as well. In the challenge you may have been better with less sky just because there were so many with sky. |

Not to be contrary, but I really liked the first Tree and Sky picture. The branches were reaching for the right space. |

I like #4 as well. I think the negative space looks better at the top of a photograph, IMHO. |

Excellent responses - thanks for the comments everyone. Nice to hear what everyone thinks and thanks for your comment about Tree and Sky 1 Aelith - I didn't think it would score as well as the one I submitted but I liked that shot too. Something about the blue and white attracted me and I definitely agree that the it works best with the branches reaching towards the sky.
