I think it's been a while since this has been brought up. Do you think it's possible to score 8.0 still?
In the history of DPC there have been exactly 25 shots which scored above 8.0. However, here is the breakdown by year:
2002: 10
2003: 2 (must have been a bad year)
2004: 7
2005: 4
2006: 2
How many shots have been entered in 2006 in challenges? I'm too lazy to pull the chart into excel (anybody?), but I'm guessing it is 10,000 or more. (watch me be waaay off). Only 2 shots have been worthy of the 8.0. (A great testament to librodo and steinar)
Anyway, I got thinking about this for two reasons. 1) I noticed Coley's Unrelatedness blue ribbon had fifty-two 10s and still came short by over two-tenths. That, to me, was amazing. 2) I'm starting to think about 2007 goals and was wondering to myself if this is even a "goal"? Do you have to be involved in such an intricate perfect storm of factors that aspiring to 8.0 is like aspiring to win the lottery?
Just some stuff to ponder...

I think nobody could ever break Langdon's famous que ball shot record as the highest scoring :) |

It can be done. I'm going for an 8+ in 2007 :)
(must be late - bravado is setting in) |

haha, you are inspiring me ursula. I do want to set some goals that will stretch me, but I also want to set goals that are at least possible... :) |

It's possible. Very, very hard though, but you can do it. |

I once had ninety-three 10s and didn't even score as high as Coley! Breaking 8 is still on my to-do list though. It'll take a perfect storm of the right topic, a great idea, and enough time to get it right, but I WILL get there eventually! Every year I've managed a new personal best, so 2007 could be it. ;-) |

Geez, this is a who's who in ribbon winners talking about 8+ scores thread. I'm not sure I should even be posting in this thread. :P
