Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed that the final score for my submissions is always just a little higher once the voting is done. About a tenth of point or so. For example, if my average score is 5.45 just minutes voting closes, it will show 5.5 (or something similar) when voting is done. Does our average always jump like that for the final counting of the votes? Do we automatically get a "bonus point" nudge or something?

Just curious.

I think that is the system filtering out the bad voters and people who didn't vote on the minimum 20%. I noticed it too.

Our vote monitoring system runs right before results are calculated. Anyone deemed to have voting patterns that look like they are trying to sway votes has their votes ignored. Thought I haven't paid much attention lately, this used to affect about 2-4 people per challenge.

The < 20% votes are now ignored real-time. That is, as soon as (and not until) you vote more than 20%, your votes are counted.

Drew,

What type of algorithm is used to detect voting patterns for votes to be ignored?

Now, if we told you that, it wouldn't serve much purpose -- would it? ;)

Ok, dang me for asking, but how then can we have votes on our submissions in the first 3 minutes of the challenge. I KNOW people are not getting through their 20% that quickly. Not possible really.

good point. I've noticed that too.

hbunch7187: Sometimes I'll glance over the first page or two and notice some that I just KNOW what I'm voting on - mostly because I know I'm going to vote 'em low. I'll get the 'quick, easy' votes out of the way, and then settle down for some serious "Ok, now, lessee. 6, 7, or 8?" considerations. Though I don't know that I've ever gotten through my 10% in 3 minutes, much less the first three minutes of the challenge!
