okay if we wanna go forward with AWARDS i think we should start making the award categories. the more categories the better, IMO. no electing candidates yet, since the 30 days is not yet over! then... once the 30 days IS officially over, everyone can nominate one photo for each category, right here on the thread... we can allow a certain amount of time (?) for nominations. then we'll tally em up and post the winners! Anyone object? Would like to add anything?
AWARD CATEGORY IDEAS:
1. Best Lighting Techniques
2. Best Post Processing
3. Best Studio Shot
4. Best Environmental Portrait
5. Best Sad Photo
6. Best Happy Photo
7. Best Black and White Portrait
8. Best Outdoor Portrait
9. Most Unique Portrait
10. Best Nude Portrait
11. Best "Compilation"
12. Most Improved Photographer
13. Best Portrait

Finally getting these posted only to find that I have FOUR more to go and everyone else is done - how the heck did I get that far behind??

Awards for the photos is a great idea ... but they'd really have to be put together to be voted on. I, for one, haven't seen every portrait.
I suppose the best way would be for each photographer to nominate one of their own for each category, then those photos would be hosted on a site (if someone was willing), and voting could be done there.
Just a couple of thoughts. They can be expanded or shot down in flames. ;-) |

Did anyone enter this for recognition or the thought that they would be named "Best" anything? I don't think so. I don't think awards are necessary for this. In fact, I think awards would take away from the experience that we all had. Just the opinion of one guy.

I don't know what number this one is since I don't think that all the shots I posted from the same photoshoot count as daily shots.. but oh well I guess! :-) |

I'm sorta with you on this... awards could be fun but I agree they're not really necessary.
edit:
Maybe instead of voting, people can just post some shots of other people's that they think fit a certain category. Kind of like how people have already said Judi's, Louis's, and your (cryingdragon's) shots work for best nudes, lighting, and most improved. That way there's some recognition but it's not voting... I think I'd like that better.

Today is my last day.... I have to get a good shot in.
I really enjoy doing this. Esp since I post stories with all of mine.... I think it helps people know me better. I'm definately doing this again and again. Plus... I'm vain like that! heehee :)
*edit - I added all the pictures from my website for this month in my 30 days folder. they are all smaller, because they are web sized... but you get the idea. :)*

I'm with both of you, and thanks for saying something. I like the idea of spontaneously suggesting people.
One of the beautiful things about this was the way we all supported each other for a full month. Thirty days of creativity is tough! We weren't competing, we were helping each other.
Once you turn it into a formal competition, you need rules. Like, is it the same thing to do several shots in one day as it is to be creative every day? Is finding the time every day the same as finding a block of time on one out of every several days?
Is doing exactly 30 the same as doing 32, including outtakes? Are outtakes eligible? What about the folks who didn't quite finish all 30?
How much editing is allowed (some people didn't do a lot, others did huge amounts)? Are composites allowed?
Etc.
And just like that, we're back into the main DPC challenge thing.
Speaking only for myself, this was a welcome break from that, and without those distinctions, I'm free to just enjoy the fairly large body of work we've all created together (and are still creating).

My last two. Have been off on a trip to Scotland, so couldn't get access to the interweb until now.
As I got a little rumpled in the drive up there, I thought that I'd try out the trouser press in the hotel room. Nobody told me that I had to take off my trousers first. I think I'll sue.
Staying up late usually means that I don't look quite my best in the morning.
