What's great about this kind of thing is everyone learns.
Some things like a rotation and radical crop never enter our minds when PP. |

The Advanced Editing contest we ran was not a rampant Photoshop/PhotoArt contest but rather to hone your techniques to rules very similar if not identical to the DPC Advanced Editing rules. The focus was on honing your skills.
If people want to revive it per the rules in the thread I linked to, we can start again. I nominate Brad to start (I've already been admin once, and as I recall, he's been in, but not the admin yet).
You can use my gallery if you want to do it per the old rules. Then take 10-15 people (presumably starting with others who have expressed interest here. I might play too. If no one experienced wants to admin, I can admin again. Note the admin also must supply the photo to edit.
The winner is the next admin. The past admin is guaranteed a spot to play in the next round too.
The key to these is LEARNING. We do want people to post their steps (after the voting--if you do it before, it's visible to the voters, at least with my gallery.
Or you can do it some other way!

Sorry if this has nothing to do with the thread, but it does involve post processing... can you change a color photo to grayscale in a basic challenge? |

Here's a copy of the rules we used:
Yes, another contest. This one is geared towards giving the participants practice in advanced editing, or at least showing their skills.
The idea and the rules are as follows.
1) A full size picture will be emailed to those who sign up.
2) You are to edit the photo to make it "gallery quality", per the DPC advanced editing rules, but a bit more relaxed on the major elements rule.
3) There can be up to 10 participants.
4) You will have 2 days to edit the photo, at which time you are to email me a reduced version, no more than 640 pixels in the longest dimension and no more than 150KB.
5) The edited photos will be emailed to me, and I will post them all in a gallery that permits anonymous rating and non-anonymous comments
6) The vote goes on for 2 days.
7) The winner will be announced. The winner gets to pick the next photo and run the next round, and so on. (I can provide the voting gallery again, if they wish)
In some ways, this will be like one of the threads where people ask for editing help, and then a number of people participate, except that your efforts will be rated and commented on, which means everyone learns from the experience. If you win, and get to use your own photo, you have the advantage of getting a lot of perspectives on how to improve one of your shots.
Note that this is not like the gauntlet contest. The object of this is to use your eye, artistic vision, and editing skills to take a photo from initial capture to a "winning" photo.
If you are interested, the first 10 people to sign up here will be the first contestents. I will supply the first photo.

I don't want in on the first round - I'm too scared of showing off my basic editing skills :(
I do however want to vote and learn from this! |

The original goal was to play down the competitiveness part and just strive to wow each other with our editing skills, as well as teach each other. As a result, one of the rules we amended after the start of the contest (not listed below but in that thread or the next one) was no trash talk.

I participated in this the last time and thought it was a great deal of fun. I'd do it again, and would volunteer to ante up the first photo if Neil will host the voting on his site again.

No fair! You have that super-jumbo sized box of 128 "elite" crayons. All I have is the dollar store generic 12 pack. |
I've only got 1 single stick... sobs |

I'm flattered Neil.
I'm not sure I could Admin anything though, as my work schedules change dramatically and I also cannot guarantee anything involving email. PM's and my server just don't seem to get along, and at times, emails never get to/from. One of these days I need to change net access servers, but until the shop sells, I'm not making any changes.
If there is anything I can help with in regards to this being revived, or help with anything in general, let me know. |

But it's magic.
Trade ya' 1 magic one for 128 generics - nope - make that 127 (lost one). |

It was copied. We can handle 10-15 each time.

I think that 10 sounds like a good number, anymore than that any you'll start to get sick of looking at the same photo. it would be hard to pick a winner from 15 slightly different versions of one photo.

Can the original be put somewhere we all can get to even if we're not in the official "competition"? I'd like the chance to follow along but can't commit right now due to time issues. |
