I suppose I could have tagged this one to the bottom of the previous rant, but that one is kinda getting lost in tangent...like I usually do.
Anyhow - to put this into perspective, the most any one voter can sway results in a 300 entrant contest is by .03. In other words, even if you don't like Tracy's method of 1 for pets and 3 for zoo animals, your score in the WORST CASE scenario will be 5.267 instead of 5.297 (the median score for that challenge). That would drop you 2 positions our of 315.
So unless you believe a bunch of voters are colluding and conspiring...one vote cannot sway results too much. Unless you live in Florida.
Just a thought.

it isn't when it is just one person doing this but it is when you get a group of people that are voting that way that it really does effect the outcome, and yes there is that group that will score low to the cliche type photos. |

There may or may not be a demographic that votes a certain way to 'cliche' type photos.
But there's nothign wrong with it if there is. Because our score represents a polling of mass opinion and as such will be a diverse representation.
Some won't like it, some will like it, some will hate it on principle, some will love it on principle. The composite of all those viewpoints renders the score and the ranking. That's just the name of the game. There's nothing to change.

As long as they don't all confer and agree to vote that way, then it's a valid opinion...that's all votes are: opinions.
Maybe we could have a "survivor" type challenge where we all get to vote photographers off the site each week until there's only one remaining. If I was the last one, I'd vote for me...then for sure I'd get a first place. Come to think of it...I could take second and third too, since the DPC Island would be mine...ALL MINE! HA HA HA!
Or maybe we could just keep it like it is. Either way.

There will always be a second party who don't like what everyone else likes, just because they think they're different. That's a fact of life and those people will always be there. If you feel that strongly about those people, don't put in cliche pics. If you think you can beat them, put in a good cliche pic. Personally I hate flower shots, especially macros. But I don't automatically score them 1's. I even entered one for flora and it did fairly well, for my standards.
If people have methods to how they vote, so be it. All I can ask from them is that they be consistent about it. A good picture will score well regardless. I always hope people will like my pictures, but I don't hold it against them if they don't.
